Alright guys and gals...this is what we were waiting on! Great news for our friends in the "cool black fishy boats" and G3's. Although the black boats will now be white boats, from what I heard today...;)

The brochures should be going to print in the next day or two I think. The pdf file of the brochure will be online as soon as they go to the printers. Meaning, you can view the brochure before it hits your mailbox!

G3, Polar Kraft join Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour, Walleye League as premier boat sponsors FLW Walleye Tour and FLW Walleye League registration dates announced

FLW Outdoors

23.Jan.2006

BENTON, Ky. – In a move that will greatly expand tournament opportunities for the nation’s walleye anglers, FLW Outdoors announced Friday the addition of G3 and Polar Kraft as premier boat sponsors of the $2.69 million Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour and $480,380 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League alongside Ranger Boats. Champion and Stratos remain associate sponsors, giving anglers who run any of the five brands priority entry into both circuits.

G3, Polar Kraft and Ranger owners also qualify for contingency bonuses in every FLW Walleye Tour and FLW Walleye League tournament. Pros running the brands will compete for a top award of $100,000, including $60,000 cash plus a $25,000 cash bonus from G3, Polar Kraft or Ranger and a $15,000 cash bonus from Evinrude or Yamaha, in every FLW Walleye Tour event if contingency guidelines are met. I would second your comments. This new development just underscores the point of my reply under the post, "State Of Walleye Fishing Today". The FLW keeps seizing new opportunities instead of sitting on their duffs and letting them pass by.

Looks like only Polar Kraft and G3 boats powered by Yamaha will qualify for the Bonus money. To bad as I know several Pro’s going over to the FLW who run Polar Kraft/Evinrude/Mercury. I know they were excited about the announcement but sure they are not to pleased about this. If this is the way it is?

That is a collosal mistake by Polar Kraft and the FLW if you're right. I read the fine print too and it said only original Polar Kraft owners with a Yamaha outboard of 150 HP or greater are eligible.

Good night Irene, that leaves the big hitters, Ortiz and Brumbaugh along with a couple of lesser known pros, from Polar Kraft out of the contigency money their big sponsor is subsidising.

If that's true it's not a good thing.

Not starting anything. It would be a shame if the top Polar Kraft pros didn't get to participate in this program available to those who may not even be factory pros, but who run a Yamaha.

It seems odd that they want to drive people to only buy Polar Kraft Yamaha combos, unless of course its becasue Polar Kraft and Yamaha have a promotional agreement because Godrey Marine is the largest purchaser of Yamaha engines outside of Yamahas own companies.

Do you think that Erwin is going to reward anyone running a Mercury?

j unlogged
01-25-2006, 01:17 PM
If you're saying that the motor companies will pay them the contingency money that they'd earn if they switched you are grossly mistaken. There's a common belief that this happens but, in truth, it might happen for less than 5 guys, if at all. The motor companies tell each pro staff member which events they wish their guys and gals would fish but they do not pay bonus money to guys who finish well in a circuit that they have no time or money invested.

JB251
01-25-2006, 01:29 PM
Irwin is rewarding guys who run Mercury, actually why would he care if you run a Mercury on one of his Rangers. If you run a Ranger/Mercury Combo you still get the Ranger Bonus money according to the guide lines outlined in the Brochure. It is obvious this was a Yamaha/G3/Polar Kraft deal which there is nothing wrong with that.

As long as Irwin is selling boats he could careless what motor goes on the back of his Rangers. Irwin (Genmar) own neither G3 nor Polar Kraft. It is what it is, a deal between G3/Polar Kraft/Yamaha.

I just hope the guys who are currently running Polar Kraft/Evinrude get some kind of exemption or I guess depending on their current deal with Evinrude they maybe better off to go out and get a Yamaha. Just as so many others are doing.

Really it makes little sense, unless you have a super Boat/Motor deal, financially not to run a FLW approved Boat/Motor combo if you are fishing the complete FLW Tour. I would have no problem with anyone who chooses to switch Boat/Motor brands do this as this is a business and all business decisions should be based on sound business principles and facts. Fact is one is leaving to much potential money on the table if you do not run a FLW approved Boat/Motor combo. If you do not believe me just ask Irwin.

John

PS: Just to clarify I do not have any personal issues on how the FLW works or is run. I have several friends who fish it and several others who will be fishing it this season.
Good luck to all of them!!

Is your reply a negative question looking for a positive answer? Or is it a positive question looking for a negative answer? Either way, the Polar Craft / G3 FLW contingency money offers opportunities for anglers who do wish to take advantage of it. The invitation is there. No one is being forced to do anything. Why not leave it at that?

Juls is correct that's not even close to what I said or even meant or am I even suggesting that one do that unless it is the correct financial decision for that individual.

My main point is I personally would not hold it against any individual or think it is un-loyal for changing sponsors for these reasons. It's what is important to the individual and what he or she feels is the correct direction they need to take to move along in the sport.

Just like any job, we move for our own personal reasons be it quality of life or for financial ones! This does not make you a bad or un-loyal person just a person trying to better their situation and that of their families.

Thanks Juls:) Good luck this season!!

"Juls is correct that's not even close to what I said or even meant or am I even suggesting that one do that unless it is the correct financial decision for that individual."

No disrespect intended, but that is EXACTLY what you said.

Your suggestting to take a look at how much money your saving with a pro-staffer discount (or whatever deal your have) and compare that $$$ to how much you can realistically expect to win with contingency money you would get with another brand boat/motor.

And I would not have any problem whatsoever with an angler choosing to do that. That said, I would prefer that circuit would choose another method of measuring anglers - like by the weight of the fish in the basket.

Take care.

Brad said, "I would prefer that circuit
would choose another method of measuring anglers - like by the
weight of the fish in the basket."

Huh? What? How is the circuit measuring an angler, by having some sponsors add performance contingency money? That is money that comes from the sponsor company's marketing dollars...not the FLW. It's a marketing tool for selling products.

The FLW still measures the angler's talent by their finishes, and that is accomplished by the "weight of the fish in their baskets"...always will be.
Most weight=highest finishes=most points="Angler of the Year".

Sponsor contingency money doesn't play ANY part in determining the results in the points standing.

Respectfully, I disagree.

Contigency
01-27-2006, 10:17 AM
I get the lack of support for contigency only if you're an angler not running those products and don't expect you'll ever get your boat and motor package on television, unless of course you're a top finisher.

I'm not sure if the contigency thing attached directly to the tournament and promoted as part of the event is smart, especially since the contigency money is being provided to specific owners of specific products and not supposedly distributed by the FLW.

However, the FLW judges the anglers like all other organizations, how they angler does in competition. The overall weight at the end of the year shouldn;t matter, it's how you finished in competition. A win with a 10 pound basket is just as much of a win as a win with a 100 pound basket.

Now, if you're talking about who gets contracts from the various teams they may have, well that has many more variables than angling ability. The ability to promote, the ability to interact with the public, the ability to work with the media, the ability to present and believe in the product being promoted.

Not sure the contigencies are the best option for the future of the sport for all the anglers, but it seems to be working for the FLW.

"A win with a 10 pound basket is just as much of a win as a win with a 100 pound basket."

Exactly. That's the difference between Lake Erie and the Miss. River at Moline!

I stand corrected...it's not the biggest weight totals at the end of the year. But, in all fairness, I did say in my funky equation that it is the "highest finishes=most points=Angler of the Year". ;)
