I have an FL8 and an Edge - I love them both. There is nothing like the Edge! My question, why doesn't Cabela's catalog carry them, especially when they are available at their retail outlets?

Good question. No other depthfinder on the market will show you what the Edge will. All of the other units are the same compared to this gem.

Cabelas has so many catalogs it has seasonal items and the vexilar is shown in the 2002 winter sport catalog.

The Edge is the best Kept secret out there for sonar, Cabela's Buyers are in the dark about what really works. The Edge has never been in any of their catalogs and the World's best Flasher is only in the winter book, go figure???

Does anyone use their vexilars in the summer? And How do you feel they work for you?

I've never used an Edge, but would like to. I don't know anyone who has one. I've had a FL-8 for a couple of years and think it is great. I got a look at a FL-18 on Sunday. What a difference. The new scale and zoom is amazing. We sitting over a huge school of crappies and the FL-18 had a bigger population of fish than the FL-8.

The FL-8 and FL-18 work just as great in the summer on your boat. Flashers are making a come back and why not? Anglers are learning how to watch their jig in the summer below the boat just like we do under the ice. The key is to keep the jig within the cone angle when the boat is moving. The FL-18 has the options that make this summer application even easier. You can bet that more boat bows will be going back to the Vexilar when more anglers discover they can see their jig in the summer too. As far as the Edge, all I can say is awesome unit. Took me half a year just to apply so much more information to my fishing. Two frequencies on a split screen tells you everything! No other sonar even comes close. Can't even begin to tell you how much more information you will get from running two opposite frequencies and being able to compare the two. After using the FL-18 and Edge, I cringe at the thought of going back to what I used before.

I ran an edge2 last year for the first time. After a year on the water with it, there are no others that I have used to compare to the edge. I have owned and used extensively, lowrances (including a lms-350), eagles, garmins, and humminbirds. The edge comes with two transducers and you can split the screen and see both at once. The target seperation is unbelievable. But the best two features are ease of use and the how great it picks up fish in water 8' and under. Buy one and never go back to the others.
Where can you get the Edge? Do they make a portable?
Ross, I heard all the comotion about the edge and had to go check them out....wow it is cool.
I found them at Scheels in Sioux Falls and Cabela's in Mitchell, SD.
The coolest thing about this unit is the ease of operation and the complete detail it provides even in shallow water. The ease is mainly due to the split screen adjustments are both seperate and right on the face. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make the adjustments timely.
I sure wish Santa woulda known.

How would the Edge stack up against a Pinpoint 7520?
