Weather seems right and lots of people fishing but I don't know if they are getting any walleyes. What kind of weights would you guys expect and who has a good crack at winning it?

I can't find a list of entrants yet, so I'll go out on a limb and say that a "local" will win it. ;)
No guess on what kind of weight will win though...:(

It's a tough bite as many fish are still way upstream out of reach. The last day should be extremely interesting and will be within reach of many, don't look for any one person to dominate as the bite should change during the tournament.
Good Luck

Thanks Bill...Scotty and Marty Glorvigen are my favorite PWT'rs, so I want either of them win it.
Billy O. is always good at finding biting fish during a tough bite though, and will probably be in the running at this event.
It's going to be an interesting tournament from the sounds of it, so it could be anyone's at this one.
Go Cheri! ;)

The Pre-fishing started off slow and scattered, with the upper river fish, having gone so far up, but they are niow on their way back. Fishing in the upper lakes has now started to pick up. Yesterday, being kind of miserable weatherwise, there were still several good catch's caught. The fish being caught, are mostly in the 14-18 inch range, with an occassional 20 incher .
The sleeper spot, is going to be the Fox river, between Omro and Eureaka, with Delhi producing very well yesterday, there were 3 tournament boats, fishing around the Waukau creek mouth, and we seen them catch a few nicew fish, as well as the locals.
My prediction, 9 to 12 lbs a day, winning weight being the guy who cantchs a limit with 1-2 20 inchers a day. Total weight: 28-31 lbs for 3 days.
Good Luck to all the Pro's
And by the way, every Pro we seen and talked to, were Very polite, and curtiousy. Very Professional Group of Guys and gals.

I,m going with Daryl Christensen.
wow. That one guys report on what is being caught on the 16th of april is VERY GENEROUS. if they were fishing today, I would bet on 10# winning weight for 3 days. The fish are on the move however and may really produce some large catches by weeks end. However, if it stays the way it is, It is anybodys shot at the win. It will be someone who has fished at this level before, not a rookie however. Gray, if he is healthy, but i doubt he can fish 3 days in a row right now. I will go with Gofron or Good. scrounge fest and they are the kings. If the fish push back from the spawning marshes big waves, it will be the best out of towners, bow hunters, that win. they know how to wait for there game. The fish will be moving and the locals will have to many spots to fish. They will be burning fuel when they need to be waiting for fish. Pete Harsh, scary Gary parsons, skarleany, Kolinski, CROW,

Looks like the field is pretty full. Also, alot of super pro's in the mix. So, for those who thought they'd have a hard time filling up these regional events, doesn't seem to be a problem. I think you'll see alot of the guys who qualified on the super pro side fishing these fishing the regionals as well. Man for the guy who can afford it, 8 tourneys is quite a season! Talked to a friend of mine who is fishing it...very tought fishing right now. The guy who can get a 3-4lb kicker and a limit of 14-15" fish per day will be in the hunt for the top 10.

Jul's,
I thought you and Rick fished PWT tourney's? I would have though since Wisc. is your old home turf you would be fishing today...
Art
Sounds like it's a little tough bite -
Perry Good and Mike Gofron do pretty well in scrounge tourney's.
Mike Peluso - it's just really nice to see him out there again this year, I think it was about 3 years ago he was the best 2 day tournament competitor out there - in 3 day tourneys. Be nice to see him put 3 days together like we know he can.
KK - it's just too close to home for him not to be very good.
Darly Christianson - Seems to me I heard he's good with a jig???
Skarlis - I don't have any idea how he does it - boy does Tommy dominate in the early season tournaments.

We haven't fished with the PWT since 2003. With the heavy promo schedule we had/have (not as heavy now as it was the last two years) we had to pick one or the other and we prefer to fish with the FLW.

It is a very small world! In our family he inherited the fishing gene. I could not catch a minnow out of the tank at the local bait shop! Actually, from the news I had been hearing, I am glad to hear that a few have been caught. I understand it has been a hard catch. This is the hardest part for me, watching where they start out on the leaderboard, and where they end up. But your right, two days left and a lot has been learned.

04-19-2006, 07:52 PM
That does seem like a low weight, however it's possible. I've seen 15" saugers that weigh 0.8 lb. In fact Rick L has the record for the smallest fish weighed in the PWT. It was a 15" sauger that weighed 0.72 lbs.

I've never fished this area. Is it Saugers that they mostly catch in this system or walleyes?? 50/50?? Just curious. Thanks!
Juls_OH
04-19-2006, 08:23 PM
Mostly walleye. They had restrictions on the sauger for years, to try and bring them back in the system. I don't know if they still have the restrictions on the sauger anymore, or not.

Juls,
hello there!
Hope you and the pups are doin ok!
If you bring in a sauger you will get a ticket and a big 0 for the day I believe.
The sauger are protected as of right now. the DNR and Walleyes for tomorrow have been working the past few days collecting eggs from the fish out on the lake. They will then hatch them in tanks and then release them back into the system. So far the sauger population has really come back and hopefully in a couple of years we will be able to fish them again.
Talk to ya later.

They should be anywhere close to needing to refuel. The reason for the nearly 4 hour trip is that evertything above Gill's Landing is a PWT enforced No Wake Zone. I don't know who, if any, made that trip. Big gamble for 45 minutes of fishing time. But, if they did, and got on that pod of fish....... Watch out!
I Know
04-20-2006, 01:30 PM
Yes, the bigger weights, as well as most of the fish, came from Gill's on down, with the leader being up there as well. Everything is from fremont, on up to Gill's.
Fish are still holding up at New London. Staglers comming down, that is what they are catching. Van Oss needds another good aM, AS HIS CO- CAUGHT ALL THE FISH YESTERDAY. Ken never boated a fish.
interesting
04-20-2006, 02:23 PM
Wow, I can invision the packs of boats all stacked up now....never been there but I looked at the river on map quest. It doesn't look like a very wide river. How long a boat ride to where the good weights came from??
TYEEE
04-20-2006, 04:00 PM
Look for a 15# bag today and maybe a 10 pounder but again it sounds like alot went to the big lake and will come back with zeros or less than 5 pounds.
Yes fish are in the river and moving down, Friday should make it crowded as in some areas further north you can barely fit one of those rigs sideways in the river. Gills is a 1:45 to 2 hour run the rest is no-wake and to get to the majority of the fish will take 4+hrs today, so that's out. It's still anyones game as there will be big fish showing up in the upper lake on Friday and it could make decissions on where to go very interesting.
Good Luck
Tyee
Well, here come the weights...and so far, looks like a repeat of yesterday...very tough!!
