The LPG 2000 was the model number for the Zercom I believe, the LPG 3000 is the Humminbird model #. Humminbird acquired Zercom a while back and is now marketing the former Zercom LPG 2000 as the Legends Series 3000. Same great unit. Exceptional picture of the bottom, very easy to use, all the functions you need.

Also available in the Legends Series is the 1000 and 2000. Different pixel counts, same features.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask me.

I asked this question to Greg Walters, the technician from Techsonic (Hummingbird) who posts on Walleye Central occasionally. He said the the new features on the Legend 3000 are: more power, I think 4000 watts, the temperature is measured in tenths of a degree and there is an alarm associated with the temperature which will go off if you hit a certain temperature or go outside a specified range. I will confirm this when I get to work tomorrow. That is where the Email is.

THis is the response I got from Greg Walters from Techsonic.

The differences between the LPG2000 and the Legend 3000 are as follows:
1.) An increase in transmit power from 400 watts RMS/3,200 watts
peak-to-peak up to 500 watts RMS/4,000 watts peak-to-peak.
2.) The addition of the Temp Alarm menus. This is a fully adjustable
alarm that works off of the included Speed/Temp gauge. It can be set to alarm when a temperature is detected outside, inside or when it enters a set of fully selectable temperature ranges. There are two additional menus that allow you to set the upper and lower temperature settings for this alarm. In this way you will know (without having to constantly stare at the Legend 3000) when you enter or leave a certain temperature range or when you reach a certain surface water temperature.
3.) The temperature readout on the Legend 3000 is in tenths of a degree
(F).

Description of White Line feature
The White Line feature takes all sonar returns above a certain threshold level and instead of showing them with what would normally be black pixels, shows them with gray pixels instead. In this way it makes it easier to see sonar return signals that are slightly weaker than those effected by the White Line setting. The White Line menu may be turned Off or a setting of 1through 8 may be selected. The LPG2000 (or Legend 3000) has the ability to affect the eight strongest sonar return levels with this feature –depending on the setting chosen and the sonar return signal strength. If a sonar return signal would not have normally been displayed with black pixels, it is unaffected by this feature. I personally like a setting of only 1 or 2 so that I can tell what signals are the (two) strongest.

Functions that are automatically controlled in the auto mode.
The Gain for the LPG2000 (and Legend 3000) is always user selectable
only. There is no automatic gain level setting made by the sonar unit.
The only settings that are automatically made are depth scale, the transmit pulse and transmit power. These are automatically set by the current depth you are in and can be manually set by the Super User Menus “X-Mit Power” and X-Mit Length”. The depth scale can be adjusted manually by the range knob. The same Super Users Menus are in the Legend 3000 as are in the LPG2000 and they are entered in the same way.

The last bit of information I am waiting for from him (if the engineers ever give it to him) concerns the power transmit function. With this Super-User mode you can adjust the power transmitted from the auto mode to low, medium or high. My question is if high is 100%, what percentages are low and medium. This would be nice to know. This function should make shallow water operation not a problem.

thanks for the info John let me know if the techs get back to you on the transmit power.
