Just wondering assumming the weather cooperates, does anyone think this tourney can be won in the River, or will it be won out in the Lake. What kinda weight are we looking at?

You are looking at 35lbs a day to win if the anglers can run to the lake. You can pull about 30lbs a day out of the river though.

The river is full of 3 lb and under fish now. Most the girls are long gone. From what I have seen this last week, a 20lb basket from the river would be huge right now. I don't think there is any way a river fisherman can compete with the lake fisherman.

You better be planning to run to Ohio waters and start around West Sister island. If you can't find 40 pounds to weigh your going to be running to light to cash a check. The river fish haven't been big enough to get you onto a leader board. If the weather doesn't cooperate then all bets are off. The weights could be anything then depending on who catches a few bigger fish instead of all the dinks they have been sorting threw if they stay in the river.

Unless the weather turns real ugly and the lake is off limits, there is no way in the world that this event will be won in the river. For the majority of anglers the bite has been off most of the spring, the large numbers of big hens we usually see never got going. Most fish in the river are averaging between 2 and 4 lbs unless the Salt Docks or Duffs clean up. I would plan on the reefs or Kellys for sure.

It will take 76 pounds to cash a check if the lake is open and boats make the run to Ohio waters just past West Sister.

85 pounds to win.

If the lake is offlimits then 40 pounds could easily win and 30 pounds might get you a check.

I ll be willing to bet that if confined to only the river it will be at least 50 lbs to win this thing. There are to many locals that know as i do about some out of the "traffic" spots that hold some post spawn females. If confined to the river, look for someone who lives within 20 miles of this river to bring in the winning baskets

Interesting- its kinda what I thought. I am a little surprised that all the big gals are spawned out, this year's run must have been down a bit. I know last year when bad weather forced this tourney into the river only, the Dalzots boys from Illinois won. To be honest I just wish the darn thing was river only. Don't know if this is exactly true but I heard the angler's advisory commitee of the MWC wanted it River only but were vetoed by the higher powers-to be. I do think that if the winners come from out on the lake you will see a big decline in the cross-overs from the central in the next year. Alot of guys just don't feel comfortable out on the big water with there rigs and such. Anyway I am sure there will be a few pigs brought in regardless of the boundaries. Thank you all who replied and good luck if you are in the tourney. Hey Capt Paul are you in the tourney?

I'm gonna be pullin' for the Ohio team of Dan Johnson -Fayetteville, OH and Mike Defibaugh -Bellefountaine, OH

Mike is 'one of the hottest in-state I-Sticks from the GNWC & WOWC Ohio I-circuits. If memory serves me correctly the ex-basser turned I-Guy Mike has fished Raybob n' Lucky's Sunday morn' IL hangover I-tourneys in the past... teamed up with Dan Johnson who is in his seventh year as a In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) Pro for the Eastern Division. He has won several awards for PWT, is a three-time Cabela's National Championship qualifier, has four first-place finishes in Western Ohio Walleye Clubs (WOWC) competitions and 18 top-five finishes in the past four years.

-anyhow there is alot of Great all-around I-skills for any body of water in that one boat, I hope they mesh well together as a team! :)

I was gonna pull for 3 Ohio toss-ups -'Toolman's team - 'Buck's "BIL" Trapper/Greg's team & the 'Mighty Matt n' Dan team till I seen the new Dan & Mike team signed up for the MWC!

*side-note ~ I feel as though the MWC should have kept it just on the Detroit river -or- moved it to Port Clinton for the long-run lake bite to keep the field level n' fair for all players ... oh well, I'm just sittin' in the 'Cheap seats takin' it all in n' whatever shakes out!!!
