Johnson added to Castrol pro angling team 2005 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour Angler of the Year becomes newest Castrol pro
19.Apr.2006
MINNEAPOLIS — Castrol North America announced today that it will add Nick Johnson, the hottest walleye angler in the world, to its professional fishing team. Castrol has been an FLW Outdoors sponsor since 2002 and currently sponsors Wal-Mart FLW Tour pros Bobby Curtis, David Dudley, Darrel Robertson, Mike Surman and Carl Svebek III.
Johnson earned walleye fame by becoming the first angler to win back-to-back FLW Walleye Tour events. At the end of the 2004 season, he claimed the FLW Walleye Tour Championship on the Mississippi River near Moline, Ill. Johnson followed that performance with a season-opening victory in 2005 on the Southern reservoir of Bull Shoals. At Devils Lake, the final qualifying event of the 2005 season, Johnson secured the FLW Walleye Tour Angler of the Year award. Proving his consistency, the Elmwood, Wis., native’s worst event in 2005 was a 33rd-place finish at Green Bay. In his FLW Outdoors career, Johnson has finished in the top 10 five times and has earned more than $420,000.
“I am extremely honored to represent Castrol as a touring pro on the FLW Walleye Tour,” Johnson said. “When I started fishing walleyes professionally, I never dreamed the sport would continue to grow as rapidly as it has. Thanks to FLW Outdoors, Castrol and many other outstanding companies, professional walleye fishing continues to grow and evolve into an incredible platform to showcase angler ability and the products we use.”
Castrol spokesperson Tracy Curtis King said: “Nick is a great performer both on the water and with the fans. If you look at his performances over the past two years, he is unquestionably the hottest walleye angler in the world. We’re excited to have him on Team Castrol, and we look forward to watching him defend his Angler of the Year crown.”
