OK, here is the deal, had to Migrate to MSN (GRRRRRRR!) and get a new email address. That part I think I have under control, so far.
My old Qwest address and all the others on Outlook Express are shot but when I need to send a email from a web link only my Outlook Express program pop's up and not my MSN, and that does me no dang good at all. Again......Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Can I still use my Outlook Express with the MSN address and if so, how the heck do I?
Do I need to dump the Explorer completely and the Outlook Express and only run the MSN browser?
Any MSN migrants out there with a tips, please feel free to share them.
Thanks,

Eddy,
If you go to the bottom left hand page of the MSN homepage, you'll find "Questions and Answers". Under "Email", there is a link to help you, it reads, "How can I read my MSN mail through Outlook Express?" That takes you to another link that will set it up for you.

I was forced to do the same. It took me two days of argueing with tech support for them to tell me how to enable Outlook
Express and Internet Explorer. If you press them they will tell you how to set them up. Here's a link they gave me that explains how to do it. http://supportservices.msn.com/us/oeconfig/ . Over all this forced change has been a royal pain!!! What they really want you to do is use their MSN Explorer and Hotmail. I told them that if I wanted all the fancy stuff I would have signed up for AOL, they didn't think that was very funny. I'm going to switch to ATT Broadband as soon as it becomes available at my home. I may be old fashioned but I hate it when someone tells me I have to do some thing that I really see no need for. My slant is that all the fancy graphics is a waste of bandwidth!!! Good luck!!

You need your POP3 and SMTP settings from you new email and you plug them into Outlook express by creating a new account.
I should be able to help you do it, but you those settings.

I don't have any tips, but I sure have alot of questions.
I have a new computer with all of these different email possibilities:
MSN Explorer
Internet Explorer
Hotmail
Outlook
Outlook Express
Whats up with all of these when I actually only have 1 email address?
Hey Perchjerker...how do you change those settings and how do you know which ones to change to for Outlook Express? Heck, I can't even remember how to get back there now? POP3? HTTP? etc. etc.

For Outlook Express, go to tools>accounts>add>mail then follow the directions. You need your pop3 (incoming mail) and smtp (outgoing mail) servers from your ISP. examnple: pop.prodigy.com & smtp.prodigy.com)
One easy way to keep them straight is to think, SMTP, send mail to people (although thats not what it really means)
hope this helps

Hey Perchjerker
I am still having an error show up after doing that. It says "host POP3 could not be found etc. It already has POP3 for the incoming mail setting so I dont understand what is wrong. Like I said...Computer Dummy needs help!

WA, do it again like perchjercker said but with these modifications.
I assume you already have a MSN account with a e-mail addy. This would include your password also to sign into MSN.
Open Outlook Express. Click Tools > Accounts. This opens your account window with POP3 listed and highlighted. Click Remove, click Yes(or OK)to verify the removal. In the upper right, click New > Mail.
This opens the "Display Name" window. If you have an account, your ID name should show. Click Next. Internet E-Mail Address window. Should already be filled in. If not, put a Check mark in the box that says "I already have an e-mail address that I like to use". Click Next.In the blank space for POP3, type, POP3.email.msn.com and in the blank SMTP SPACE, type, SMTP.email.msn.com
Click Next. Internet E-Mail Logon window. Type in your account name and password. Put Check marks in the boxes for , Remember Password, and Log on Using SPA. Click Next, click Finish. To send mail from your MSN account...
Click the All tab. Scroll down to POP3.email.msn and hilight it. Click Properties. Click the Servers tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server, select the "My server requires authentication" check box. Click, Settings. Click the Log on Using option. Type your MSN user ID name in the Account Name box and your password in the Password box. Check , Remember Password. Select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication check box. Click, Apply > OK. Click, Close.
If you dont have an MSN account, you can try substituting Your ISP account information and see if that works. Hope this helps.

Why do you say "had to Migrate to MSN"? I got the same notice from Qwest and I dropped them like a hot potato. They can't force you to change, you can have anyone you want as an ISP. I had heard many bad things about MSN and no way was I going to be "forced" into switching. I went with a small local ISP and couldn't be happier. I get great service, I can talk to a real person when I want, and it's even cheaper that my old Qwest account.

Thanks Leo,
That seems to have worked and I can now send outgoing mail but...now I have a new problem. When I go to Outlook Express a window comes up saying that an error has occurred. It states it was unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication etc. etc. It gives me an option to hide this error window and then I can continue with a clean screen...which I do and everything else seems to work. My question is why is this error window showing up?
Thanks again
Ed: I too had trouble like you at first, but I call customer service and they walked me thru the changes. It imported all of the older data from "outlook" and it seems that after I have used the new format I like it better. Many of the things happen automaticly, like it changed an E-mail address of one of my saved address's without me doing it. It also seems to keep much of the data on there server instead of on my computer, not sure what, but I find I can't access certain stuff without being online. Any how call they will help. I just hope they don't start to raise prices now!! Waiting for SPRING....Kaz

Kaz, 18 m0nths ago I signed on to a promotional between AARP and MSN that gives internet access for less than $15/month. Criteria was that you have to have a MSN account and be a senior citizen with a AARP membership. Check you Favorites list on the menu bar and see if it includes, "MicroSoft - Seniors and Technology - Home Page", and see if it is still availible. If its not there, check with customer service

WA, it might just be a computer quirk, I get stuff like that all the time. AS long as you're able to send & receive, I wouldn't worry about it too much: but, go back and doublecheck the Alls tab > POP3 >
Properties steps you went through and make sure all the boxes that refere to "Secure Password Authentication", etc., are checked.
One work around I use when I get that error message and my mail wont download is to go through the whole set-up procedure again that I've listed above. Its a headache but you know how computers act like females at times.
One other step I forgot to mention. If you have a antivirus program that scans your e-mail as it is downloading, you'll have to enable it again everytime you remove your old POP3 account and set-up a new one, even if its identicle.

Hey Leo,
I think I found out what the problem is. After calling MSN customer service, I found out that I can not use Outlook Express while I have an MSN email account. They said MSN email is web based and Outlook Express is POP3...can't use both at the same time. According to the rep, web based email has alot more security and everyone will be gradually going to that for security reasons??? He said I could change it...but I would lose MSN email and the security that goes with it.
Leo: My deal is $12.95 per mo because I use Qwest as my phone provider and have the 3 way, call holding, caller ID, etc. US West had a deal before Qwest and I hope they don't do away with that. Thanks for the heads up on AARP though. Good Luck WAITING FOR SPRING....Kaz

When I said MSN Account I didn't mean an e-mail account. I meant that the account was for MSN to be your Internet Service Provider and that's what the above instructions were for. MSN is my ISP and Outlook Express is my e-mail program. Did you read my post to Kaz below? Cheap rates if you're a AARP member and are looking for a ISP. I'm glad you got it straightened out. I would go with Outlook Express as the default e-mail Program.

For those that already switched, it is too late, but for those that have not, you do not need to switch...yet. Quest is currently being sued by a group here in town that does not want the forced "migration"
Further, there is noise that MSN bought the list from Quest and has done this illegally. Jury is out, but I caught this limited info on CNN the other night. They said that the migration is not mandatory until the injunction is lifted. Could be mid summer before Quest sells it all off.
Watch your new reports. In the mean time, call Quest for the correct details.
