I posted a question here a couple of weeks ago about purchasing a new tow vehicle and wanted to thank all for their responses. Well I ordered my new truck this week so if anyone is in the market for a late model, low miles, Ford 150 drop me an email and I will send you the specifics. Email is RRobertJMartin@cs.com.
Take care and good fishing,

So what did you get?

Went with another F150 Lariat, off road 4x4, 5.4 engine. Got it loaded with all the toys, even bun warmers. I found an old Lund brochure and the boat was about 500 pounds lighter than I had thought, so I wasn't stressing the class three III hitch as much as I thought I was. I also appreciated the advice about the ride quality of the F-150 as opposed to a bigger truck. I used to own an F-350 and I had kind of forgotten how rough it rode. The comparison of a buckboard to a Cadillac brought back the memories of some rough rides. I can keep my same camper shell also so it saved me some bucks, just have to get it painted.

I hope you checked out the F150 7700 which is the heavy half. It has a lower gear ratio and oversized brakes. It's great for towing and the price is pretty much the same as a regular F150 with no appreciable difference in mileage.
I have a '98 Ford 150 with the 5.4L in the XLT package. I have been quite happy with the truck so far and it has been trouble free. I bought it pre-owned and have put about 35,000 miles on it since Oct/2001. That is until its time to put fuel in it which I personally think is all too often!! I am not very impressed with the economy which is consistent at 8-10 towing an 1850 Crestliner SF, tournament rigged, and 10-12 on the highway not towing with day to day load. I usually drive in the 65 MPH range and have tried everything from 55-75 and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Power is OK, I often have to drop into 2nd(I have automatic with the overdrive)when pulling hills but pulls fine when on normal terrain. Overall I rate the truck on the OK-Good level. I have looked into the v-10 250's to help the economy while towing trouble but it doesn't sound like they do much better. I don't have much interest in diesel's so I will just continue to whine until things change. Good luck with your new rig, I'm sure you'll love it..RJ in Montana....
