View Full Version : Hail the new pro's
So, we all had a chance to think about the past and where this whole world of walleye fishing came from. Thank the old boys before they all pass along the last gravel road, and know our "Heritage". Names I have not heard for a long time. It was a good discussion.
NOW, Who makes the game exciting for you to watch today? The ones that make you cheer when the live leaderboard renews and there name now has points by it. You get to list 2 names. Tell us in short why you enjoy looking for there names in the standings.
For me it is......
....for me, when I watch the PWT or the FLW Weigh-ins I watch for friends in this game, but other than friends I like the up and comers. There are several that are really on the brink of making the turn to true super star. Bill St. Peter is one. He is now in the lead for A.O.Y. in the supers and what about chase parsons. He is taking alot of money away from "THE BOYZ"....hehehe it's great to see, and it frustrates them I am sure. The last but not least is musynoski. He is constantly in the game.
Who are yours?

I like Jeff Ryan. A humble Iowa boy who put it on the line to do what he loves. Nice guy to be with in person too. I think he will be in it for the long haul.
Chase is an interesting story. If I listened and learned from my dad when I was you, I would be much better off now!

I would have to give it to Jeff Ryan. I fished with him on Det. river this spring, what a hoot. Second I would have to give it to Steve Bohn, I learned alot from him fishing the river.Steve is doing pretty good this year.
Jeff Ryan. He is a great guy. I met him at Devils Lake and he was just a really nice guy to talk with. He's having a great year.
The other would have to be Chase also. Its just exciting that a young gun does so well and cashes so many checks this early in his career.

Got to pick the kid. Chase reminds me of Kavajecz when he first started. Makes unbelievable moves and decisions when the tournament guns go off. Another heavy hitter that's young is Bobby Crow. He's a threat in every situation. And I agree that Bill St. Peter had become a force.

Gary do you guys still have a web site? Because when I click on it its gone.
Never mind my favorites address got changed somehow.
How about GATZKE? He wins Bago, hangs tough at Devils.......I've seen him pre-fish, I think he's Regional Angler of the year.

Gordy Powers:
First five FLW starts:
12th, 23rd, 23rd, 89th, currently 10th at Green Bay. Very consistent. In cut contention in all these tourneys but one. Not bad for a rookie. This guy will make waves.

Add Ted Merdan to that list - PWT Rookie of the year in 2004 and pulled 4 checks for a top 5 in the FLW AOY this year just missing two day 4 cuts.
He also does a great job representing his sponsors!

Jeff & Chase are my top 2 picks ~ after the GB FLW Jeff is the leading money winner for the 2006 FLW tour w/the big buck$ Championship yet to fish. Both Chase and Ted T had my heart pumping right up to the finish line this year with some outstanding rod-bendin'!

The past year I have had the opportunity to fish with Dustin Kjelden. He was constantly willing to teach me not only the methods he prefers and utilizes but also understand the thinking behind his methods. After a first place finish at Devils Lake and 4th in the AOY contest last year he had another strong season this year. He needed a big finish on the last day of Green Bay and came through with a big bag. After pre fishing with him at Red Wing and Green Bay this year I began to see how dedicated he is to the sport and FLW. He represents BFGoodrich perfectly, as well as all his other sponsors. Dustin Kjelden has my vote as one of the best young (only 27) tournament anglers.

Gary,
I have to disagree with you on that. I can remember Chase, when he could barely see over the gunnal of your boat. He was always inquisitive, and always had a rod in his hand. Keith, on the other hand, I can remember when he first got into this game, and he was reckless and always willing to take that chance. No Offense Keith, but Chase is going to pass you's all. Only because he had great teachers.
Chase, you are living, every fisherman's Dream, to become a Super star in the fishing world. I have seen you grow up, I've seen you fish, And I've seen you present yourself to the public, and all were in a good way. You will do well!
Remember, the road behind you, was paved by us dinosaur's, the road ahead, must be paved by you, and the other new stars. Make it a Good road, never forget who you are, never forget your friends, and most of all, be a people person! The rest will follow naturaly.
Oh, one last thing, next tournament, kick your Dad's, and your uncle Keith's butt, and tell them that was from me, one last time.
Good Luck Kid,
And to all the other up commers,
Gary Gray
