Teams need to sign up by Wednesday night July 19th at 8 PM to avoid the $50 late fee. This can be done by going to www.wbsa.us and paying through Paypal. Late registration and boat inspection will take place Saturday morning starting at 5 AM at Spitzers Lakeside Marina. West Marine will once again be supplying free coffee and donuts for all the participants Saturday morning.
The takeoff will be at 7 AM and the boats must be back by 3 PM for the weigh in to determine finishing places. The weigh in will find pop donated by Boat US and West Marine for the participants. The fishing in this part of the lake has been nothing short of phenomenal recently and would be expected to stay this way through the tournament. “With the points race so close and the fishing so great this event is shaping up to be an exciting one and we expect a lot of fish coming to the scales” commented WBSA President Marc Hudson. “There should be a lot of different techniques used and teams are always willing to share these techniques with the crowd at the weigh in after the event” continued Hudson.
The points race for Team of the Year will be settled with this event as 14 teams are still in the running to take the title. At the top of the list currently is three father and son teams. Currently in first with 564 points is Karl and Darik Warnke and tied for second is David and Travis Hartman and Tommy and Tom Sibert with 562 points. Just 12 points separate the top 8 teams. The teams are fishing for a cash purse of over $1800 and the title of “LEWT Team of the Year”.
The WBSA is a Social based Club for fishermen and women that fish in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Membership is open to all fisher people no matter what their location. Our goal is to present information in a manner that will help sustain and improve fishing in one of the greatest inland sport fisheries in the world. Scientific information, fishing techniques, locations and presentations will be presented at our monthly meetings by expert and knowledgeable speakers and tournament anglers in our group. These anglers are very open with techniques and methods and will help any member that is trying to learn new methods. All you have to do is ask (Well, maybe not the day before a tournament)! We will be hosting tournaments ourselves and assisting other groups with their tourneys and fundraisers and also holding or assisting with children's fish outings.
Openings still exist for this tournament. For more information you can visit www.wbsa.us The LEWT is sponsored by Triton Boats, Evinrude E-TEC(BRP), D&D Lake Rentals, West Marine, Reef Runner Lures, Cranberry Creek Marina, Sportsmans Outpost, Erie Outfitters, Buckeye Rod Maker, Dixie’s Crafts, Michigan Stinger Spoons, Sharpnack II Chevrolet, Fisherman’s Wharf, Jim’s Taxidermy, Cisco Fishing Systems, Lakeland Products Group, Rich’s Hook Line and Sinker, and Dave’s Bait.
