FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 3, 2006

Logan, NM – High Desert Walleye will host the annual Governors Cup open walleye tournament. The tournament will be held at Ute Lake near Logan, NM on September 23rd and 24th, 2006.

Eric Banks of Cabela’s has confirmed that this year’s Governors Cup will qualify anglers for the 2007 Cabela’s National Team Championship although it may not be the only criteria. We will be working with Matt Kettler to formulate how positions will be allocated and hope to have this available at the rules meeting or prior.

Tournament format will be a two day venue based on total weight for the two days, $200 entry fee and 80% minimum payback. Sponsors are currently being contacted for added money and additional awards.

For complete rules, entry forms, and payout information, go to www.walleyecentral.com/high_desert_walleye.shtml

MexicoNM,

I wonder if you can answer a question for me. Does Cabela's publish a payout schedule for their NTC tournament? I have trouble just finding the Cabela's site with the tourny info, and when I do find a link, there is nothing about the payouts. I think it's a no entry fee tourny and I know how to qualify and they have AWESOME trophy's, but still wonder if anyone knows where/if they publish payouts.

Thanks!

Not sure, but if you called or emailed Cabela's they may have a previous prize payout.

The NTC is a "big show" and there are a lot of other reasons IMHO to attend, money is down the list.

I've made a lot of good friends in the past and it also helps support smaller local tourneys/circuits like ours in states where walleye fishing is not as common.

I fished the cabelas championship in pierre SD, There is a 200$ team entry fee for the tournament.. the positive side to that is, the tournament pays down to last place 200$ im not sure how it pays down, but i know 1st place is 25G's and 25G boat. and i know in the twenties its still near a G. Im sure there are several users here that can give you an idea of what the payouts look like.

Thanks very much, that's close enough. And I didn't know you also paid an entry fee in addition to qualifying, but it sounds pretty reasonable for the payback. We don't go just for the money, but when you figure that you need to fish in (and pay for) 4-6 tournaments in your home area in order to have a chance to qualify, and pay all the expenses associated with those tournaments and the Cabela's as well, it's nice to have an idea what the payout will be.

Happy Fishing!

BRIAN,
WOULD I BE ELIGIBLE TO TRY AND QUALIFY FOR A CABELAS INVITE AT THIS TOURNAMENT?

Anyone who enters the tourney will be eligible for a Cabela's certificate.

We are in the process of findind out exactly/roughly how the spots will be allocated...as I indicated above, Cabela's has not told us how they will pick spots.

In the past, they chose the top 3 or 4 teams that were able to attend and not already qualified through another circuit...which was 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th if I recall. 3rd - 6th were already qualified or could not attend.

You have qualified multiple times in the past through the TWA and if I am not mistaken, never attended...why are you inquiring about the spot?

I may decide to go next year if I am fortunate enough to qualify.

We have confirmed that the top team will be awarded a spot at the 2007 NTC and we do not have any more information right now.

There are 14 teams pre-registerd at this point and we have been told by almost 12 more teams that they will be there.

We have almost $1000 in added cash and over $2000 in door prizes to be given away at the rules meeting.

Walleye Central is putting up $100 cash for the "Oh, you just missed it" first spot out of the money.

Mack's Lure will be offering "Mack's Money" Big Fish awards each day and also Mack's Money to the first three teams out of the money otherwise known as the "You need more Mack's lures". ;)

Reelbait Tackle is offering a Big Fish Bounty each day for $100 cash IF the fish is caught on a Reelbait Fergie, Walleye Flasher, Lytle Secret or Back-Bead Spinner.

This is a Ranger Cup event and pays a bonus $250 to the highest place Ranger Cup compliant team.

Other sponsors who added cash are:

The Annex Bar and Grill
Logan Chamber of Commerce
Bailey Strebeck Motors Clovis, NM
Enterprise Rent A Car

Manitowoc Trophy has finished the plaque which will have this years winners added to it...the 2004 champions (Steve Mullen and Dan Stringer) have their place at the top for winning the first event. We anticipate the plaque being displayed at the Annex Bar and Grill in Logan.

We will update this as we get more product or prizes...
