View Full Version : Fox Sports Net and HSUS
There is some big time concern right now about the anti hunting and fishing group the Humane Society of the United States buying up advertising time on Fox Sports Net, which is the same FSN that carries the FLW Tour. Several things are of major concern to all of us who love the outdoors. Right now HSUS has approximately 100 million dollars in their bank accounts and plan on a very strategic attack to take away not only our God-given right to hunt, but also have their eyes on fishing. I would hope that this is a major concern to the FLW. The ad now playing is actually about trapping, but according to Wayne Pacelle, (CEO of HSUS), the list of priorities are trapping, the dove bill in Michigan, then bowhunting. This is really just the beginning of the movement and fishing is on this list....They have a lot more money than the sportsmen and women in Michigan and most of it will be used to put an end to the harvest of fish and game...I hope the good folks at FLW are discussing this issue, and I hope the hunters and anglers who cherish the outdoor lifestyle will stand tall and together. Copy and paste http://msn.foxsports.com/regional/detroit?workingCategoryId=272 into your web browser and add your comments into the fan forum. It is amazing that companies will take advertising that will negatively impact the very people they are trying to keep as regular customers but we all know the the almighty dollar dictates everything these days. It is my hope that the FLW and their sponsors are looking ahead to what could be a disaster for them as well...after all, no fishing, no FLW. What the heck is Fox SPorts thinking of accepting ads from them? That's crazy, they are worse than PETA! Who can we contact and where?

This is serious business. Please take the time to let the Fox Sports people know how you feel about this. HSUS is the most dangerous organization in the country to those of us that pursue consumptive outdoor sports. If they make inroads among the urban ball-sports fans I fear the slippery slope will become mighty steep.

Better take note of this. Nick knows his stuff and if he says it's serious, IT IS SERIOUS. Please take the time to check out the FSN website and let them know what you think.

Along with voicing our opinions, seems like involving Irwin Jacobs into this would be a good thing. Genmar would stand to loose some money if the slope becomes slippery...

If you go to this link
http://www.hsus.org/legislation_laws/state_legislation/
you can select your state and see the legislation that is either pending, died, signed into law, on the governor's desk, etc. and you will also see if HSUS supports or opposes it. There is also a link in the Dove Ban legislation in Michigan to see their campaign video. I couldn't see it myself, but it's there if your computer can handle it.
Plenty of other legislation on the site if you care to review.
If you check the wildlife section they are also calling attention to the need to oppose a Shark tournament in Martha's Vinyard. HSUS always target the small groups like the trappers or small upland hunting groups with plans to make slow but steady progress...they have...think about how things may be for our great grandchildren 40 years from now if this group chips away and takes scientific management out of the equation....I hope everyone on the board will write to FSN with an appropriate statement of disproval. Mark, thanks for bringing this to the boards attention. You have identified the primary strategy for HSUS/Fund for Animals and the other extremists organizations: divide and conquer. They locate local, regional issues and try to make inroads because the sportsmen and women don't identify the threat soon enough and when they do they don't have the organization and resources to combat the wackos. They love to pit one group of resource users against another and in the end both groups will lose. They use local victories as precedent for larger regional & state battles. They will attempt to get local ordinances passed that contain ambiguous language and then they argue that such language prevents the pursuit of consumptive sports. Examples include passing animal "welfare" ordinances that include fish as a "protected/pet" animal. Once this is accomplished they have prevented kids from catching and taking home trout from the sports show trout pond, argued that fishing in city- owned ponds is prohibited by the ordinance, etc. These are just Iowa examples that I'm aware of. Please remember, these organizations have a goal of ending hunting and fishing...completely. They have professional staff, full-time lobbyists in every state, dedicated volunteers and tons of money with more coming in every day. They will attack fishing by attacking tournaments and dividing the fishing public over the issue. They will remove management from the DNR/scientists and make all wildlife decisions ballot box issues. If successful, they will slowly implement more restrictive regulations until they've eliminated access to fish and game or your ability to use fish and game. It's a scary, scary thing. Educate yourselves about these wackos, their intentions and methods. Know your enemy.
Mark D, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to keep these people from continuing to disrupt our way of life. We appear to be getting the fishing ordinance matter cleared up but another deer season approachs and they are already hammering away at the politicians. Should be an interesting fall.
