Carl Elsner & Mike Tankersly claimed the top spot on Oneida Lake.
On Sunday, August 6th the team of Carl Elsner & Mike Tankersly Held on to defeat the team of Larry Johnson & Jason Lawrence by one tenth of a pound.
Oneida Lake lived up to its reputation as being one of the Premiere walleye lakes in New York State. Anglers traveling to this lake were amazed at the number of legal walleyes along with the quality of the fish they were catching. One team reported catching "50" legal eyes in 1 hour during prefishing, " this is an incredible lake, we had four fish on at the same time several times during the day" the team commented.
During the tournament most teams reported catching 25 - 30 legal size fish and more.
Anglers were able to fish a variety of presentations on this body of water which made for an interesting event. Anglers fished cranks and harnesses suspended with snap weights and lead core, downriggers, bottom bounced harnesses and live bait riggs on bottom, jigged with crawlers, bucktail and jigging spoons, and even pitched cranks into the weeds. Fish were caught from 7' of water all the way out to 44" of water.
The story was the same from one end of the lake to the other "wow, what a fishery" but in the end it was Carl and Mike that out trolled the rest for the victory.
While there were hundreds of walleyes being caught, the team of Russel Liddiard & Rich Liddiard bested the field for big fish of the event with a 5.00 pound beauty.
Top ten teams are the following:
1 - Carl Elsner - Mike Tankersly 11.97
