MINNEAPOLIS — Tune in Sunday, Sept. 10, to “FLW Outdoors” on FSN for incredible open-water walleye action as the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour heads to Green Bay, Wis. The fourth and final qualifying tournament of the season, which included a full field of 150 pros and 150 co-anglers, concluded with the winning pro claiming a cash prize of up to $100,000. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the one-hour show until the final weigh-in results are announced.
All week long, the world’s best walleye anglers have been meticulously plodding through Geano’s Reef in search of giant females. While the leaderboard has undergone substantial flip-flopping throughout the first three days of competition, pro Ted Takasaki has been a bastion of consistency. Each day Takasaki has calmly bagged 30 pounds or more to move closer and closer to his first FLW Walleye Tour victory.
In addition to winning the event, the East Gull Lake, Minn., pro also has a good chance at breaking the four-day weight record set by pro Pat Neu last year on Green Bay. Takasaki’s three-day total currently sits at 94 pounds, 11 ounces, meaning he would need only 18 pounds on day four to break Neu’s record of 111-8.
One angler fishing away from the crowd is Oneida, Wis., pro Wayne Butz. After catching over 25 pounds each day, Butz sits in second with a three-day total of 81 pounds, 1 ounce. While nearly every competitor is pulling crawler harnesses behind planer boards, Butz is also using 1/8-ounce yellow-and-orange jigs tipped with a night crawler. Watch as he puts his local knowledge to work on day four.
FSN also follows pro Dean Arnoldussen, perhaps the hottest open-water walleye angler on the planet. Living in nearby Appleton, Wis., Arnoldussen is no stranger to Green Bay; he won the FLW Walleye Tour Championship held on Green Bay in 2001. In third place with one day on the water remaining, his three-day combined weight stands at 76 pounds, 5 ounces.
The Sept. 10 show will also air the conclusion to the 2006 FLW Walleye Tour Angler of the Year race. The award, which rewards consistency, is given to the pro angler who accumulates the most points during the four qualifying events. Three anglers are still in prime position to capture AOY honors.
Coming into the Green Bay event, Dennis Lantzy led with 417 points. Lantzy brought 18 pounds, 13 ounces to the scale on day one, good for 48th place. In second was Jason Przekurat with 408 points. On day one, the Stevens Point, Wis., pro sacked 17-13 for 51st place. Lantzy is still sitting in the top spot for now, but watch out for hard-charging pro Tom Keenan. The Hatley, Wis., native came into the event in third place with 405 points. But after day one, he has unofficially leapfrogged Przekurat with a 20-pound, 4-ounce limit. He finished the day in 38th place and is only two points behind Lantzy.
FSN broadcasts “FLW Outdoors” Sundays from 11 a.m. to noon ET. Check local listings for show times and channels in your area. FLWOutdoors.com also provides an online show guide listing what events are coming up on “FLW Outdoors.”

FLW TV ROCKS!
If walleye fishing ever hopes to get BASS-like popularity, FLW TV is going to be the reason.
PWT who? Don't even remember who they are anymore. Do they have a TV show? Kind of silly to have to ask that question about a circuit that has been around since I was a small child. Sorry guys, but the new kid on the street is just plain trying harder.
If that show didn't make you want to jump off the couch and go fishing, then you are not human.

I agree, A whole hour on Walleyes and the show was all about the fisherman. I saw a couple of things I want to try here on Saginaw Bay. Did you see the boat with the umbrella, Who was that? I Never thought of using one for those hot calm days, pretty cool idea.
Who is doing the show, Fox or FLW? They did a great job. It will be shown again this week on FSN Michigan if you missed it.
Keep up the good work.

Lindner Media Group has been doing the filming/editing for the FLW Walleye Tour shows, and a couple of the other FLW circuits.
BTW...That was my Golf umbrella. I normally take along to shade my dogs from the sun with it.
It was so hot that week, that my Co's and I ended up using it ourselves. At times there was zero wind and the heat indexes were at 100+ degrees....whew!
What you don't see on film is the bucket full of water that we were taking turns soaking our feet in to cool off. LOL
Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! It looks goofy, but I didn't hear my Co Anglers complaining. ;)
Juls
p.s. The umbrella also comes in handy if you get stuck on the water during a thunderstorm that is producing hail. It stores nicely in the rod locker by the way.
Disappointed

I didn't think the broadcast was that great. But it is nice that someone has to take a shot at the PWT.
For people that didn't know what a slider rig is, the piece on Pat Neu was very good.
Granted Butz won the tournament, but there were 150 anglers in the tournament. It should have been a show on Wayne Butz fishing G.B.. There was an angler (John Schneider) that they showed weighing in. He was in the top ten, and really no mention.
The piece on the woman co-angler that did not make the championship was useless. Who really cares. she didn't make it. Do more on the woman that won a tournament, and was in the top ten in this one. Yes I know they did do a piece on her.
I believe Juls is the only woman pro on the Flw tour. Do a piece at every event with her in it. Let's see what it is like to be on tour from a woman's perspective. How it is to deal with all the men out there.
Juls you were just too cute with the umbrella to leave out of the final edit! I'm glad to here you liked the show...it was one of the most exciting I have ever put together. Being able to capture Wayne agonizing over that 22 1/2 incher...then throwing it back at 1:40 pm, then sticking a big pig and the final upgrade as the rest of the guys were running past him to the ramp....wow...it doesn't work out that way every day.
Tell Ricky I'm sorry I haven't called him back...was in Escanaba with the league guys last week. Speaking of which...as you've all heard about the weather....just wait til you see that show! Talk about some dramatic footage! It's certainly the kind of stuff you'll never, ever see at a bass tournament! And the league boys did a great job on camera...we're pretty excited to start editing it. It'll air on October 22nd I believe, so stay tuned!
Sorry to here you were dissapointed in the show. I know we won't ever please everybody, but I appreciate your comments. Here are a couple of responses to your critique.
1) It was in no-way the Wayne Butz show...Wayne was the center of attention at the end of the show and he should have been. He was the only guy in that field of 150 you mentioned that had the guts to turn his back on the open water troll and pull out the jigging rods. He also had the guts to toss back a solid keeper late in the day and go for the win...and finally...he WON. Yes, the guy who wins the tournament tends to get a little more attention than some of the others. (even though we had extensive in-boat coverage of 6 of the top 10 and out-boat coverage of the rest)
2) I'm a big fan of John Schneider's and had a ball working with him. However, I think he'd be the first to agree that he had a very tough final day (3 small fish) and with only 44 minutes to tell the story of a four day tournament we just can't give ample coverage to everyone...even all of the top 10. Just the way it is. If you're a Schneider fan, as I am, you'll want to tune in to the League Finals show October 22nd. A great tournament for John and some awesome final day footage of him wacking fish. Of course maybe then you'll accuse us of making it the John Schneider show.
3) The "Jackie's Journal" piece has been an ongoing human-interest feature that has run the entire season. We've been following Jackie with the "spycam" all season as she prepares to make the jump to the pro side. Would've been a little odd not to follow it through to the end.
4) As you point out (after saying we should have done more on Kristine Szcsech) we did do a feature with Kristine and I think it was one of the best behind the scenes features we did all year. It was by far the longest...the most feature time devoted to anyone pro or co all season. And Kristine deserved it...she had an awesome year!
Thanks again for the input....Ii just wanted to give you some of the thinking that goes in to the final product from our end. And thanks for speaking out about the PWT comment. There's certainly no need to put down any other show...those boys do a great job over there with a much smaller crew. Keep it up guys!

Maybe saying it wasn't that great was wrong.I was commenting on the guy that took a shot at the PWT. He acted like it was the best show he has ever seen. That is what I meant, when I said, I didn't think it was that great.
I taped the show, so I can go back and look at some of the areas they were fishing, especially where Wayne was at the end. I forgot about the part where he was agonizing on keeping that fish. That was a very good piece on what tourney guys have to go through.
You guys do a very good job, like you said not everybody is going to like everything you do.
I would like to see a woman's perspective of the tour. I think Jul's would be a good person to do that. She has been doing it for awhile now.
You're right...and Juls and I need to have a little chat about 2007. You know that little spy-cam feature we did with Jackie? We'll need a new victim...er, i mean subject...next year.... Maybe "Juls Journal"? Of course we'll have to put some boundaries on how much "behind-the-scenes" of Ricky we get...the audience could only handle a certain amount of "exposure"! tee-hee...
I've got it....you've seen the success of "The Osbornes"...how about "Living with LaCourse"...they've got the dogs and everything! hmmmmmmm...might have a whole new series to consider...

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh ahahahahah Reality TV has never seen anything like my husband before!!! "Living with LaCourse"...LOL OMG you're killing me! That would be too funny.
As for your next "victim" err..."subject", I would definitely be game for that Chad. That would be a fun project! I for one enjoyed "Jackie's Journal", and agonized with her when she didn't make the cut. I'm glad she is trying to make the jump up...I'm looking forward to having more gals on the Pro side. I've been alone on that side for 5 years now, and I thought for sure it would have happened sooner. Well, like the old saying goes, "It's better late than never!" ;)
Make sure to call Rick when you get a chance, he does need to talk to you...(419-835-7348)
Thanks,
Juls

Just one little comment about that slider piece....You can't unhook that like Pat did...It is natural to do that but he was fishing illegally for 5 seconds....it must be pulled in period....that is why we need to outlaw the slider rule in 2007 Sonny....Too many folks inadvertantly unhook that and even if it is for 1 second.....are illegal....outlawing that will put things back where they should be....It was a great idea for a while but as one of the Posse showed, isn't worth the hassel to our sport...

A note on the comment made about my method of moving the slider from one side of the boat to the other. I would agree completely that according to FLW rules I would have had too many lines in the water if I had been running the slider off the inside board, and then move it over to the opposite side of the boat prior to reeling in that inside line, but I don't run my lines that way. I run the slider off the outside board so I can comply with the FLW rules. Running the slider off the outside board allows me the opportunity to reel up the inside line and remove it completely from the water prior to moving the slider to the other side of the boat. By using that procedure I have one line with one lure on the remaining on the outside board, the slider that I have moved to the other side, and the two lines with three lures on that opposite side. That's a total of three lines with one lure per line, and one line with two lures per line, which is within the FLW rules and the regulations for the state of Wisconsin.
I believe in Wisconsin you are allowed 3 lines per angler so he was legal by jumping from one line to another. If he did it in an FLW tournament where you are only allowed 2 lines per angler then it would have been illegal. That episode was more than likely filmed during pre-fish and I doubt the FLW would let something illegal air on national T.V. .

By the way Pat described it, he was totally legal. If you didn't catch what he said, "let's get out of here", when they got that fish to the boat, he was pre-fishing. During pre-fish you can use 3 lines.. Nothing was illegal.
That was a nice piece on you, Pat.

Good point Eric -
I was going to point out that it was clear to me that Pat was pre-fishing. Sonny was clear on the rules at the meeting on sliders such that I didn't feel there was any concerns about how to handle them.
The feature on Kristine was well done and she had been a gold mine for the show this year. However, I do feel that some of that exposure could have been directed at a pro or several pro's. Many of us would have benefitted significantly from that amount of exposure (sponsors, contracts, resume builder, etc.). There are a fair amount of pro's who also have real jobs outside their fishing professions. I personally think it's harder to balance a real job, fishing at the tour level and a personal life than only focusing on a fishing career.
With only having one hour of coverage it's hard to make the cut and rightfully so, the majority of the exposure goes to the final 10 because they earned it! Is there any discussion about increasing the exposure to 2 hours for each tour event and the championship like they do for the FLW (Bass) Tour events?
Overall great job and I as an angler really appreciate all that FLW is doing to promote the sport!
Jules, I think you are already the spokeswoman for walleye fishing, if for nothing else than for the info. you add to the board. While I do not always agree with your views, I applaud your enthusiasm. Also I made a post about a while back regarding Erie tournaments and u were the only one that took my side, that's a plus!!!

I think that it's a good idea to fallow one (or more) angler(s) that is fishing as an AM and planning to turn pro. Isn't this what some of us want some day holding up monster walleyes in front of the camera and YOUR co angler saying "your my hero". Great job and I record all the shows even the other white meat shows, I think there is something to learn in every tournament. By the way my wife thinks I'm addicted to fishing when I fish for 4 days staight and come home and watch fishing shows, I don't see it. Tight lines to all.
What you didn't hear from Pat, AKA, Reuben, after the "Let's get out of here." was the "I've got to get to an A&W!" that followed! hehehe
Tight Lines All,
Shep

Why even worry about sliders? FLW should either allow the max number of lines the state does or just say that only two lures are to be run. Why make you guys bend over backwards just ot conform to a goofy rule?
As for the coverage of the women while I think it's great to see women in the tournaments why so much coverage from such a small percentage of the tournament people? There are 2 or 3 women and they get 10% of the coverage?!?! I am not trying to knock the women but I'm pretty sure that there are some men pretty deserving of TV attention that didn't get any because they were men and not women.

It's a good way to get more women involved in the sport. It will give other women who may of thought they couldn't compete, the inspiration/courage to do so.
On a side note:
I've had a handful of men that I've run into over the years, who knew me from this site, tell me, "Thanks to you, my wife is going fishing with me now, and we have a great time together." Or, "My daughter wants to be like you, and she is my fishing partner now...she's only 10 years old". And, that's only the ones that talked to me in person.
I have to wonder how many other women have been influenced by other women fishing on TV shows, on tournament circuits, or by their participation on the fishing websites?

I think Linder Media has done an outstanding job with this years walleye tour. It's impossible to please everybody. Winners should get the most attention, even though Sand might suggest he didn't. Linder Media has the experience to know how to turn a four day tourney into a dramatic story with heroes included. Great job showing Wayne agonizing over keeping the fish. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with for next year.

Men can use the same encouragement also!
I remember reading an article in a fishing or hunting trade magazine a couple years ago that compared recruiting men and women into the outdoors. There conclusion was that it was not cost effective to try to recruit women into the outdoors as it cost so much per woman that actually started hunting or fishing.
Remember that this was a trade magazine and they were talking about advertising costs and return on investment, not the joy of getting your wife out fishing.

how about giving some air time to the rookies of the Tour and also having a rookie of the year prize, that what the FLW is all about going from the leagues to the big time about giving those guys some money and air time we should all be treated the same man, woman,or race.

Ahhh, but don't forget that in most households, it's the woman that holds the purse strings! Don't believe me? Just do a search on here for all those posts that say, "My wife gave me the Ok"! Or, "My wife said I could upgrade boats"! etc... ;)
I can't find the figures right this moment, but I also remember reading that women spend billions of dollars on outdoors equipment, and that includes fishing.
