I bought a new jiffy model 30 10" auger last year. It ran fine until recently, now the only way i can keep it running is to pump the primer button at a constant rate. If anyone out there has a possible solution to help me with this i would be very thankful........... knowledge is a wonderful thing. My mind is a scary place Thanks Bernie

My guess is a plugged up jet in the carb?

Pull the fuel line and drain the carb, remove the needle jet screws. Note how many turns it takes to extract them. Write it down so you know what was what latter. If you forget, a good rule of thumb is 1 1/4 turns from the seat out with the needle screw.

Flush out the carb with a spray carb cleaner and a LOW presure air hose. Be a very good idea to empty the fuel tank, flush, and start with fresh fuel to be sure the contamination is all done.

Replace the needles and hook up the fuel line.

Take a look at the spark plug while your at it. It may be buggered up and need of replacment or a quick cleaning?

Give it a try and see if it pops off now.

? Did gas sit in this unit during storage? It seems to be starving for gas, which could mean a plugged orifice, or a bad or stuck needle in the seat, which will occur if gas sat in the unit during storage. Dissamble the carb, clean with carb cleaner, install new needle in seat as these are inexpensive, reassamble. Drain old gas and install fresh gas and new spark plug and you should be off to the races, unless your fuel line has gotten soft and collapsed. In this case install a new fuel line.

If the auger is a year old it probably does not have an adjustable carb. Almost all small engines built is recent years have fix jet carbs because of EPA standards. It you were to order a new carb for an older engine they would now send you a non adjustable carb to replace it.

Tecumseh is the motor that is on the Jiffy 30 and you will probably need a needle and seat kit and a diaphram for the carb and those are basically the main parts of the carb. If the diaphram is bad this could cause the problem. The carb could still have a plugged jet so blow it out when you replace the diaphram. Make sure you put the diaphram in right. There is a diaphram and a gasket and the gasket if put on the wrong side this will cause the motor to run to rich or lean...........

My Jiffy had this problem this year at the start of ice fishing,i just adjusted the screw for more fuel flow and now she starts great even at 35 below.Still runs great considering ive had it for 8 years and has drilled well over a thousand holes.FISH ON.

So Perchy are you saying that the 3 hp Tecumseh on the Strike Master is better than the 3 hp on the Jiffy?? They must make the Strike Master ones special for them?

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!
