I.O.W.A. tournament director Dean Higgins recently announced three regular season year-end awards for the I.O.W.A. Walleye Tournament series.
First, David Lampe from Britt has been awarded the first annual Mercury Sportsman of the Year Award. "This is a prestigious award," noted Higgins, "because it is awarded based on the vote of the teams that have fished the I.O.W.A. circuit. It is a testimonial to the type of person David is in the eyes of his fellow anglers."
The prize for the award is a Mercury 9.9 Pro kicker sponsored by Mercury Marine.
Lampe said, "This is a great honor for me. I believe the respect is high among all of the teams, and I am proud to be honored by my fellow anglers."
Lampe added, "I want to thank Mercury Marine for their willingness to be a part of the I.O.W.A. circuit and a special thanks goes out to Dean and Chris for all that they have done to help build this circuit."
In addition, the MinnKota Family Team of the Year of two MinnKota Maxxum Pro Bow Mount trolling motors for the top placing team over the four-qualifier season went to the team of Joe and Kathy Kirk from Urbandale.
The Humminbird Team of the Year Award of two Humminbird 937-Cs for the top placing team over the four-qualifier season went to the team of Terry Green from Mason City and Steven Templeton from Clear Lake. A model of consistency throughout the year, Green and Templeton used a second place finish at Prairie du Chien and a first place finish at Spirit Lake to capture the title.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank Mercury Marine, MinnKota and Humminbird for their willingness to be part of the I.O.W.A. sponsorship team. They are all leaders in the fishing industry, and I am proud to have them as sponsors," added Higgins.
