View Full Version : St. Petersburg, FL
I know the 'eyes are probably a little scarce, but anyone know of a good way to scratch the winter itch in or around St. Petersburg, FL. I prefer not to do the big boat out on the ocean action, but if there is a good guide or my own ewxcursion I can take please let me know.
As always, thanks in advance,
Brian
I used a guy for a charter fishing for reds and specs in Tampa Bay last year and had pretty good luck. Its a small boat for shallow water, a flats boat and were sight casting. If this is what you have in mind, reply and I'll find his number. We caught several nice redfish and trout and a trophy size snook, 40". It was $300 for the day and he provides gear and bait. He docks at a marina just north of the big bridge.

I start my open water fishing each year with a month long bass fishing trip to Florida during the month of March. Been doing it for the last 16 years.
I can tell you about good fishing opportunities on Lake Walk in Water, also know as Lake Weohyakapka, at Lake Wales, Florida. Also can tell you about Lake Toho at St Cloud, Florida. Lake Wales is east of St Pete in the middle of the state and St Cloud is just below Kissimmee, Florida. Both these lake produce lots of bass and many over ten pounds.
I also know of a guide in that area who provides me with an update on water conditions when I ask him.
If you would be interested in these lakes drop me an e mail and I will give you all the information you need to fish for tropy bass there.

Take a look at www.hubbardsmarina.com I am waiting until I can take some time off and try them out. I would rather bottom fish for unknowns than troll and this is a very reasonably priced service. I have no experience, only someone telling me that they had a great time.

One more example of how small the world can be. Rob Gorta is who I went out with from reply #2. I didn't have his number handy, glad you did. I agree with all your comments and would use him again without hesitation.

You might try the fishing piers at both the north and south ends of the Sunshine Skyway Toll Bridge(I276?). This bridge is the one that runs across the mouth of the bay. The south pier gets more action in the winter months. Everything is available from bait shop on south pier. A little further south, public piers off Anna Marie Island. Try Economy Tackle in Sarasota for an assortment of guides and trips. Enjoy the weather.
Thanks to all for the help.
