For my yearly trip taking my two brothers fishing (both still in High School), I am taking them to Leech Lake instead of Canada. We are going the last week in June and staying on Trader's Bay. We don't care about quantity or big fish, just catching enough to keep us interested. I am a Salmon guy, but taking them out on the Great Lakes and washing lures is no good to keep the next generation involved.

Any advice would really help. Thanks in advance.

when you get to walker, stop at reed's sporting goods and ask for the latest fishing info. by then, the deep humps in walker bay will produce pretty good. don't be afraid to fish slipbobbers on these humps after you mark fish, even if it is 30 or more feet. we have put on some big shows out there with 1/32oz. jigs and fathead minnows hooked in the tail under bobbers. the deep basin south of ottertail point in the main lake should hold roaming schools as well at that time. a great guide, al maas, might be a good first day investment to help you in the right direction. have fun...

Steve,

Which resort are you staying at?

If at all possible try to go during the month of may. If you can't that will just have to do. I would try to go to Sugar Point, start just off the point and drift all the way past the sugar point lodge about 200 yards. Go fairly close to the shore, drift using lead-heads and minows. If you are looking catch bigger walls slowly troll using deep diving shads getting it deep to the colder water and you should bring home some big ones.

When i was a kid i used to fish on the east side of bear island as well catching some big walls but i haven't tried that for years. These places work i have been doing it for 15 yards.

Acorn Hill Resort. I've never been up before and I am hamstrung on the date I can travel due to brothers and school. One graduates a week before I travel so this is the earliest I can go.

Thanks.
