I just spent the last 3 hours manufacturing my very own ice tent. This thing is top notch, double stiched seams and the works. Total cost was 11.46 CND, that's like $1.00 US ;-) 2 9x12 poly tarps from Canadian Tire and an old promotional canopy from work, I am pumped to give this thing a test.

This brought me to a question on how many WCer's create there own gear? I know the general concencus(sp) here is to spend money on the best equipment possible but my wife dosen't agree. She thinks I have too much stuff now. Hum..... I whish our dollar wasn't worth $0.60 US then maybe I could afford all the stuff you guys talk about. I'll keep dreaming.

By the way, we're making ice up here today -38c this morning without the wind, sure made the truck grumpy!

A lot of people on this board buy expensive gear, but sometimes the same people also build their own because what they want isn't readily available or because it gives them something to while away idle time. Some also do it to save money. Enjoy your tent!

CND, Sounds to me like your a whole lot like ME!

I often read the stories about the 25-50k boats, with the 2-5k of electronics in it and dream too. The guys who have 1,000's of $$$ in tackle and are able to change or upgrade every time the industry revolutionizes something.

Well not me, at least currently! Not because I wouldn't if money was expendable, but some of us blue collars have to make due in certain areas of our hobby. Fishing is a very expensive sport no matter how you slice it.

I wish I was as crafty as you are, my shanty cost me $22.49~

Enjoy,
