Got a "hot tip" from someone who fishes the western basin of Lake Erie alot.

He claimed the only color he uses is a pink harness for eyes.

I was just wondering if anyone else has found pink to be a good color?

Haven't tried pink harnesses (probably wouldn't admit it if I had :-), but I have done well with pink jigs and white fuzzy grubs....

MarkO,
We used to use pink and white weight forwards quite a bit, especially when the white perch were spawning. But I would be very suspect of anyone saying they've got the only answer you'll ever need on any aspect of fishing; be that color, depth, speed, presentation, technique, or tactic. The Weapon, Flippin Harness, Mayfly Rig and Casting Harness guys all think that all gold is ussually best, but color can vary day to day or even hour to hour. It's probably worth noting and you migt even make up some for those times when the white perch are squirting. But I'd hang onto your other blades as well. The copper diamond cut blades with purple and green stripes added with a magic marker, have been my best the last couple years .

Good luck.

I'd have to cast my vote for hammered gold as my overall best/most consistent producer on Erie (for the 1 whole week a year I'm there). But, as ETT said, you've still got to remember to be flexible with conditions. I will admit I can't remember trying pink though.

Here on the Eastern end of Lake Erie,Pink has been one of the mainstay colors in Crawler Harnesses.Pink with Watermelon Tape, Pink with Black Tape and Pink with Rasberry Tape have been big producers for years now. They do work the best on the bright sunny days when the Walleye are suspended in the upper 25 feet.On over cast days go the opposite Black with Pink Tape. We fished and won the Lake Erie MWC tourney at Geneva last August using copper willowleafs with pink tape on them. Some on tandem blades. Pink sure was the answer that week.

Never tried the pink harness before, but had a silver plated HotnTot with a pink strip down its back, caught more walleye on it then any other color I have ever used, don't think they make that color anymore.

I personaly dont see what color underwear you use when youer fishin has any importance, but i do use my favorite pink tite-ti-whiteies(in the wash with red flannel)and sometime red high-heels shoes.

Pink Colorado blades with purple beads was one of our better producers on the Western Basin last year. In light of this, I've tied several dozen pink combo's for this season. With that, it's a sure bet that pink will not produce at all this season.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I sometimes like to jump on the bandwagon with different things to try. By the responses there may be a little truth to what I heard.

Tom, ain't that the truth. I've got a basement full of various rigs that were hotter than a pistol one season, leading me to stock up on them the following winter, that haven't done diddly the next year.

I still keep 'em, though, because much like the clothes in my closet, you never know when they're going to become popular again. :-)

I have experienced times on Lake Erie that you couldn't beat a blue, White, and pink colored blade that we get from Jann's. We usually use this color though on overcast days, because when the sun is up you can't beat gold. Just my opinion.

I troll alot of the Central basin, and have found pink to be an excellent producer. We have similar luck off of the watermellon, black and purple, white (5 of dimonds), copper, firetiger, really i could go on, i have days where one out produces one day then the next u dont catch squat on it.

My last trip to Erie out of Walnut Creek in mid September I put on "Pink" crawler harnesses and my buddy made fun of me for about a half hour then he was not making fun but begging for them "Pink" Harnesses and we both limited within two hours(It surprised the heck out of me but I will never let him know that)I always did good with purple or Black and once in a while watermelon . Good Fishing,Derb.

On Mille Lacs in Central MN - one of the clearest lakes in the state -and having a large populations of blood worms on the mid lake flats - pink has been an excellent color for many years.
As the other posts suggest - the hammered brass and copper with or without pink are good as well on certain days.

Take care

Last July and August we were doing great with trolling a hot tiger colored harness behind a bottom bouncer. It outfished all other colors 3 to 1. It started when We were fishing out of a plain 14' aluminum boat in 21'. I put on the hot tiger and caught 4 fish in about 100 yards and then my budy could not take it any more and swiped a hot tiger harness from my gear for himself. We had our limit 25 minutes later.

I would like to mention that sometimes how you hook your crawlers has just as much impact as what color you are using. Use a two hook harness. Put the first hook just about 1/4" behind the tip of the crawlers nose. Set the second hook in the crawlers body so the worm pulls through the water like a pencil. No twisting and spinning! Its a walleye killer, downside is with all that worm dragging the perch family begin to love you. Bring lots a night crawlers along!

I have been fishing LAke Erie alot since 1980. Mostly casting at night from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm near shore. Each year we would find a great lure and then the next year in the same spot it just would not produce as well. It seemed like every year or two we would find a new hot lure or hot color that produced well. One season my budies were using a lure that was hot from the previous year and I tried a new shallow diving shad rap in crayfish color. The limit was 10 fish per person and there was three of us. I caught 24 and my two budies caught the other 6. I loaned them my rod because I thought they were about to make me walk the plank! That Shad rap was a killer that year but it was not the best lure the next season. Is it the fish or fisherman that causes this trend? To make this long story short, Pink may have been good last year but you still may want to pack quite a few different colors for this upcoming season!

I have to agree with the above posts about not going totaly gunho on pink. Pink might have been a hot color and has potential to be hot again, definitely worth tying up some rigs. I'd recommend though that you find out exactly how that rig was set up down to what kind of beads size and shade of color. Build yourself two of that rig and two of roughly 5 variations. Then take the original rig and create a basic breakdown of the rig, the color combos of blades, beads, floats and hooks. Make that a template and create 10 more variations or rigs but make sure to make 2 of them. Now I say make 2 of them because if you're fishing one of them and it becomes hot but breaks off you can retie that rig easily off of the remaining rig from the first tying. Its a system that has served me well but it doens't help all that much if you either don't take your tying materials or don't tie rigs quickly (takes so long you loose teh bite). My $.02. Tight Lines.

Man, no kidding. Several years ago, on day one of the Bluewater Salmon Tournament out of Port Huron, we slammed the shallow water kings on pearl Bomber's. Needless to say, Saturday afternoon and evening was spent driving and purchasing every pearl Bomber we could get our hands on (which is tough along the Lake Huron coast). Come Sunday morning, we ran a full spread of nothing but pearl. Since that Saturday, we have NEVER taken another fish on pearl.

So anyone in the market for pearl Bombers?
