View Full Version : Something new or different in 2002?
Other then walleye what new species would you like to fish for in 2002?
Fishing for the table or just for fun, or both.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to master walleyes to the point I am satisfied, so it seems every chance I get on the water, I need to try to improve my technique, work on a different technique or just try to observe and work the electronics better.
Ok, I'll bite. I would really like to get the downriggers set up on my boat so I can try a little salmon fishing on sakakawea this summer. I found some really BIG catfish while fishing the Winnipeg River this fall. If I could only find someone to show me the fine art of cleaning and cooking them, I may be interested in trying some piggy Cat fishing on the Red this summer. Heck, it is less than 5 miles away from where I live. Don't know if I can pry myself away from the eyes' though....we'll see!

Just eat the cats under 22", they are the best eating by far. Big cats are not good eating, they are much better to fight then eat! If you can filet a walleye a cat is just as easy once you see it done.
Salmon are on my to do list for 2002, so I wouldn't mind playing with the salmon myself Hawgeye. When the salmon are hot in the summer, so are the cats, so I am often darn busy about then.

BASS? It has been years since I went out and exclusively tried to catch bass. There is a very strong possibility I will be entering a bass tournament in August. I friend I work with has been after me for years to join him in one of his tournaments. I think it would be nice to turn back the clock and see if I can still catch those pesky things when I'm actually trying to. Would need to practice before hand to get that mentality back.

I voted for bass because that was on top, but I don't have a "full" fishing year if I DON'T fish for all the other species mentioned (except maybe for cats, never really done that), plus more, crappie, white bass, wipers, carp (yes, carp - incredible fun on a fly rod; I've got 30-40# grass carp (white amur) in my lake; try one of those on light tackle!), etc., etc., etc. Basically, love to fish and don't turn my nose up at anything that swims, though I may not specifically target them all.

I agree, it's all good!
Carp are fun and a chalenge. Sturgon is another great game fish that few try but really should.

What a tough one. I would like to go billfishing again. Went in Kona last year and got a 505. I've hunted all over and fished all over, but there was no bigger rush than watching that fish come in.
I always figured bass fishing must be easy because every outdoors show tapes it. Babe is the only one that consistently goes after Eyes and Pike and northern type fishing.
Next trip is Peacock Bass. That doesn't look as easy as LM and SM.
My vote is in.
