Just putting the question out there to see if there would be enough interest in a Walleye Tournament on Grand Lake St. Marys. The State says there are plenty of quality sized fish in the lake (20 inches plus), but they aren’t being caught on a regular basis, so they would like to get some good fisherman to prove they can be caught. East Bank Marina is interested in running a quality tournament (small entry fees with good payout in cash and prizes). We feel that there would be some good sponsorship from area businesses and so forth. We would like to run this tournament on a Saturday or Sunday, preferably somewhere between mid April and Memorial Day and if there’s enough interest, another one in the fall somewhere between mid September thru October. If there are any clubs or groups interested, has any ideas or would be interested in sponsorship for this, please post here, email me at dtahlers@yahoo.com or call me at 419-852-1700.

Hey John, you can count rick and I in on a tourney at Grand lake. I was going to mention this at the sunday meeting. There are a lot of good people (bait shops & such) in that area. See you on sunday

Pumper, I have always wondered if the saugeye had taken hold in St. Marys. Keep us posted, I would love to try and make it to a tournament there. My Granddad and I fished that lake many years ago for bass and crappie, and the occasional carp trip. We had a blast.

I do believe the St Mary's hatchery has been pumpin' excess W a l l e y e into the lake... even though many go over the dam & stock the St Marys river to Ft Wayne & then the Maumee downstream to Erie. Next door neighbor Indian lake was stocked with walleye (pre-saugeye) for many years & a few hung around the lake to reach 10 pound size w/o swimmin' over the dam...

Sunday would be the best for me. I'd be there.

I would recommend Sunday. From my schedule I keep it looks like the WRWA Mosquito event is the only conflict for that day and with that being over 4 hours away shouldn't pose a problem.

Good luck with this and just might see you there if you end up having it.

Keep us updated. I'll come over. Only problem is my boat only knows how to get to the Eagles & Moose on that lake. Might hinder the pre-fishing.
