2007 Evinrude E TEC - Starcraft Marine LEWT kicks off the season with full field
The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) will kick off the 2007 Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) along with title sponsors Starcraft Marine and Evinrude E TEC on Sunday April 1st. This first event will set the tone for what will surely be an exciting year for the anglers of the LEWT.
The teams will take off from Fenwick Marina at 8 AM and have to be back by 4 PM for the weigh in. The public is invited to join the participants for the weigh in as this can be a great opportunity to ask questions and learn some of the fine points of walleye fishing from the tournament anglers. There will also be a drawing at the weigh in to award the Gander Mountain Early Bird Award to one of the teams that signed up for all four regular events during the early registration period.
“We are pleased to announce that once again this year we will have West Marine supplying donuts and coffee in the morning for the teams and refreshments in the afternoon at the weigh in” remarked Marc Hudson, WBSA President.
The first event in 2006 gave us our closest finish ever with just one tenth of a pound separating the top two teams and also our big fish of the year of 12 pounds even. With a little cooperation from the weather this year the kick off event should provide more exciting action. Tournament Director Matt Davis commented “We are pleased to have the first event of the year fill up almost 2 weeks before the tournament and we have a real good number of entries for the May tournament already. It looks like this year will be an excellent year of growth for the LEWT.”
The WBSA is a Social based Club for fishermen and women that fish in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Membership is open to all fisher people no matter what their location. Our goal is to present information in a manner that will help sustain and improve fishing in one of the greatest inland sport fisheries in the world. Scientific information, fishing techniques, locations and presentations will be presented at our monthly meetings by expert and knowledgeable speakers and tournament anglers in our group. These anglers are very open with techniques and methods and will help any member that is trying to learn new methods
There are spots available for the remaining LEWT events in 2007.
