I was daydreaming here at work and started thinking about the different kinds of fish I have caught. I have jotted down 38 kinds so far (includes salt water). They vary from sailfish in Mexico, halibut
in Alaska, brook trout in the Rockies to walleyes in Saskatchewan. All the different species have an interesting story and special experience.
Do you fellow walleye fisherman on WC "fish around" like I do?

IN-fish had an article on this about 6 months ago--so this is a pretty easy one for me. My life list, as they called it includes 49 different species of fish. all from fresh water.

Most people who are worth their weight in 6 lb mono should be able to hit 25 with ease. Almost half of these came as a youngster soaking a worm in a creek that wound through the town I grew up in.

This brings back many fond memories.

Had some more time to daydream at work today and thought of 13 other
kinds of fish (mostly caught when I was a young pup) so my total is up to 51.
I must have waay too much time on my hands or spring is not coming fast enough.

I'm sure I haven't caught 60 species buy I know I've caught a bunch- maybe I missed em' but did some of you miss:

ling or drum - these may not be the correct names, but were what I was taught.

I've been having crazy fishing dreams everynight for the past couple weeks, so I too must be getting ansy for the soft water even though I love ice fishing as well. Last night all I caught in my sleep was a darned beaver....hmmmm

Take care~

Steve, if you ever in the NYC area hook up with me, I'll get ya that striper...

tj, ling and drum are two different fish, but ya gotta be careful with saltwater names, the same fish will have different names depending what state your in.

If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

Hey crash,
Sorry, no picture. It was reaL small, about 7-8 inches. Caught fishing off grassy key in a boston whaler with the new wife, at the time. It was real ugly and smelled really bad. We caught several of them while fishing for the yellow snappers. Didn't even want to touch them to get them off the hook and throw them back. They were similar to the sea robins I'm sure you've caught in the Atlantic near NY. Send the site to identify it, it would be fun.

I was born and raised in NYC but found out there was another way to live when I went away to college and I never went back except for a few summers and to visit. My whole family is still there so I do get back to NY on a regular basis. If time allows, I will look you up. Usually those trips are pretty full, but I am retiring after next year and will be more flexible. I spent a number of evenings as a kid with my dad surfcasting the LI beaches for stripers or whatever. I don't recall that we ever caught anything! I did hook up on one big striper on my flyrod off Martha's Vineyard several years ago, but did not land it so I didn't count it. It was big; popped a 12# leader like sewing thread.
I did think of several more fish from the lists given; porgy, mackerel, snapper (Florida kinds), jacks.
Cheers

After looking at the lists some of you have posted, I found 9 more that I did not remember. Now up to 60.
On my wish list to catch:
Sheefish
Marlin (Blue, Black and Striped)
Tarpon
Barramundi
Peacock Bass
Piranha
If I win the lottery this week, I should be able to have a shot at
all the above soon. If not, I'm only 40 so I still have a few years to chase them down. Oops, I forgot about the 3 kids to put through college. That could (will) delay the quest for the above.

It looks like the second half of this thread got truncated so I don't know if you saw my response to your offer. I was born and raised in NYC and most of my family is still there, so I do get back regularly. I may well take you up on the offer of some striper fishing but it probably won't be this year as my wife and I are building a new house. Maybe we will meet if you make the Western WC roundup at Glendo this summer.

Hey Steve, anytime man, I've got some sweet spots. Easy on the body too, none of that climbing, clinging, stuff these nutz do these days....MV is a hot spot these days, lots of 30 & 40 pound fish around.

I'm the opposite, I am originally from Michigan...don't ask, it all started with this girl.....:)

If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

Since I first posted this question, I now have a list of 63 different kinds of fish. I live in Montana and have found it interesting in all the different fish you guys have caught. I don't go to the salt water that often and have not even heard of some of your catches. We don't have a huge variety of fish here.

It would be interesting to fish in the north-east part of the country where you have more kinds of fish to catch when the Eyes are not biting. During a slow day of walleye fishing, I would like for something to bend my rod and wake me up.

I am not pickey at on a slow day. The following would be be "fine catches" on "One of Those Days": sucker, carp, tumbleweed, plastic bag, clam, partners line, electric motor, rock and last but not least, a trout.
