Like several other folks I am looking at upgrading my electronics this spring. I have heard some discussing regarding the sounder capabilities of the x-15 and a little on the x-16, but how about the gps/mapping? Any ideas how the x-16 would compare to a garmin 2006 or 2010? I have only seen the x-16 in stores in display mode but not in real action, how would those of you that have one or seen them on the water rate them.
Many thanks, regards, dean

I use the global map 3000 as my GPS that way I don't have to run a split screen as I am fishing or running. The global map is a little less expensive than the Garmin units because of the color. The Garmin units you have to down load the maps off of the cd's. the lowrance units you have to purchase the chips or map from navionics.

Do yourself a favor and go with the X-16CI, it's simply poetry in motion!

Gary, I second that! I had the X-15's on my boat last year, and they were great. This year, I have a Global Map 3000, and 2 X-16's..

If you are just looking for GPS, then I would go with the Global 3000, but if you are looking for both GPS and Locator capabilities, then I would consider either thhe X-15, or the X-16 if you want the color, and pocket book says yes.

Good luck with your choice's,

Side note, kind off the subject. I work part-time at a local sporting goods store. We just put out the new Lowrance products( I still think they rule) but the x16 we had walked out of the store on Tuesday night. I wasn't there, but the guys working were not by the electronics counter. A husband and wife team came in, and in less than 5 mins, had taken the unit out of the store. We've got them on video tape, but how in the world are we ever gonna find them. A completely selfish note, I'd like to catch these losers just one time....

Back to the x16, I played with it in the store and it seemed awesome. I wish I had the $$$ to try one out in the real world....

I have used the Garmin units(2006c) and the X-16ci in fishing situations and can tell you that they are both killer products. As far as the screen viewability, the Garmin unit was much better. I was able to see the screen in any light. The Lowrance was OK but i found myself doing a dance to get the right angle. I spoke with the Garmin rep the other day and asked about the Fishing Hot Spots CD, it sounds incredible and they will also soon have the maps of a whole region on a chip so you don't need to do the CD thing. Like I said both are great products but I liked the Garmin unit better.
