just wondering
08-31-2007, 05:37 PM
I know I've seen it before, but can't find it now. Does anyone know the tenative schedule for the 2008 FLW Walleye Tour? Thanks!
Lake Erie/Port Clinton, OH April 16-19
Lake Sharpe/Pierre, SD May 7-10
TBA June 11-14
Bays de Noc/Escanaba, MI July 23-26
Championship: TBA Sept. 24-27
I was told Lake Mille Lacs is out, and another MN location is being looked at for the third event.

I just interviewed Sonny last week on the show and he islooking at Cass Lake to replace Lake Mille Lacs.

Right. I just didn't want to say anything until it was "for sure".
Are all 9 lakes in the chain accessible by boat?
Thanks,

Your are right Juls they are just looking at Cass and it is not for sure yet. With the slot on Lake Mille Lacs like it is they could not get a for sure answer about next year slot from the DNR so they will have to go another route.
Thanks

Hello Juls
Great job of covering the LWPT last week. Just wanted to know if the tenative 5th tournament in August for the FLW tour was still being looked at?
Thanks

Thanks Terry...
I haven't heard anything lately on that subject.
I'll certainly let you know if I find anything out during the League and Tour championships this month though. :)

There will not be a fifth event in 2oo8.
If it is going to be in MN, I hope FLW looks at changing the date too. Permits that late in the year are not catch and release permits.

Burr makes a good point. The MN DNR had a different interpretation of the permit just before the MWC at Big Stone last month. They felt the language in the contract "allowed one limit per angler for the tournament". This meant in a two day kill tournament that we could only keep and weigh four fish per day. The FLW is aware of this.
One solution in the past has been to buy a new permit for each day of the tournament. At the new price of a MN permit....welcome to the world of government control(ie, socialism).
Hopefully the FLW works this out and we fish in MN next year.

You can also sign your fish over to a charitable association like, "Let's go Fishing" in minnesota. We had the chance to do that with the FLW League on Lake Bemidji and the DNR does allow this. Just sign the slip, they will take your fish and their not in your possession then!
But on the other hand a 4 day tournament with all 4 days being a kill that sucks.
I don't think they are kill tournaments at that time of the year are they? How do they regulate that? Does it go by lake size and date combination?
Reason I ask is there is a local tournamnet on Lake Bemidji in middle June and that is a C&R tournamnet.

There is a specific date set each year when the C&R tournaments end. Dates are different in the north zone and the south zone. The north zone is usually around the third week in June, the south zone a week or so days earlier.
The odds that the FLW can get a permit for an earlier C&R tournament anywhere in Minnesota at this time are slim. Depending on what time they decided to change it and re-applied for permits, they might have a chance in a drawing.
The mismanagement of the Mille Lacs fishery continues to be a joke and a black eye to all parties involved.

You don't hit the kill date in northern minnesota until the end of june. And yes, there is a 100 boat C&R tournament on Bemidji the 14th of june.

It's mismanaged because a court ruling is running the show, not the trained biologists! There have been very few management decisions made based on the biological needs of the lake. Everything is based on staying within the court's rulings and not upsetting the Indians.
Equal Rights.... :horsepoop:

I am not blaming the biologists or the DNR, IK realize it is the court decisions but it still stinks.

If you ask me MN is the most regulated and mismanaged state in the Midwest. Too many regulations are gumming up the system. I'm glad I don't live there and would never spend my money to travel there.

That guy - if only more people would think like you we wouldn't need all this regulation! Perhaps you should think before you type???

that guy,
Good, we don't need you in Minnesota. Some of you guys can whine all you want about restrictions. Mille Lacs is one of the best walleye fisheries anywhere, and just because the FLW isn't going there doesn't mean you can't fish the lake and enjoy the catching. As JLD said the quota is all political. It sucks, but what do ya do? Never going to change.
