2007 Evinrude E TEC - Starcraft Marine LEWT Wraps up Season

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) will hold the final tournament of the 2007 Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) along with title sponsors Starcraft Marine and Evinrude E TEC on Saturday, September 8th at the Bulans Boat Yard in Vermilion. With less then a week to go before the event there are spots still open with early registration closing Wednesday at 8 PM.

The teams will take off from the Vernilion River at 7 AM and have to be back by 3 PM for the weigh in. The public is invited to join the participants for the weigh in as this can be a great opportunity to ask questions and learn some of the fine points of walleye fishing from the tournament anglers. In addition to the cash payout we will present the Navionics “Just Missed the Spot” award to the first team finishing just out of the money. This will be a certificate redeemable for a Premium Navionics map chip valued at $199.

The fishing off of Vermilion has been nothing short of phenomenal the last few weeks and tournament organizers expect to see a lot of big fish come to the scales. It will be interesting to see what tricks teams use to target the big fish needed to pull out a win.

“We are pleased to announce that once again this year we will have West Marine supplying donuts and coffee in the morning for the participants and refreshments in the afternoon at the weigh in” remarked Marc Hudson, WBSA President. “Our generous sponsors, listed below, have donated products so all entrants not cashing a check will go home with a nice prize.”

This event will also see the crowning of the 2007 LEWT Team of the Year. The rookie team of Kevin Michnicki and Frank Zubel sit at the top of the points standings with the father and son team of Tom and Tommy Sibert right behind. Nine teams are still mathematically able to pull of the yearly award. A close finish is expected and it might come down to the tie breaker to see who the champions are.

The WBSA is a Social based Club for fishermen and women that fish in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Membership is open to all fisher people no matter what their location. Our goal is to present information in a manner that will help sustain and improve fishing in one of the greatest inland sport fisheries in the world. Scientific information, fishing techniques, locations and presentations will be presented at our monthly meetings by expert and knowledgeable speakers and tournament anglers in our group. These anglers are very open with techniques and methods and will help any member that is trying to learn new methods
