Was in Mich a couple weeks back and stopped at Kmart. Noticed a rig there called a nas spreader. Have never seen one before. A piece of wire with a snap swivel in the middle, and on the ends a clip to (I assume) attached a snell or crankbait. They also had colorado blades and beads on each end. Anyone use these? How are they used, and are they effective? Thanks

HAHAHAHA- they must of got that by accident. Its a saltwater rig used for Fluke and Flounder. The center clip you put a 4 to 8 oz bell weight and off of each end you run a snell with gobs of clam and corn. Guess you could rig it for eye's with snell rigs, if they arn't spooked by it.

Sounds like a perch spreader to me. I have never seen that brand but alot of them in this area are made by small shops.

Ha Ha , Your right Tim it is a perch speader, I had some people down from Mich. a couple yrs. ago. (Avid fisherman too) I took them perchin and when I put spreaders on there poles they about lost it. What the heck are those !lol They took a bunch back to Mich. with them. Hard to believe only a state away, some of the differences. We've been using perch spreaders here for along as I can remember so thats 40+ yrs.....

Yep. Its a perch rig. A few beads and a small blade at each end. Put a snelled hook on each end, and 1/2 oz weight in the middle, bait with minnows and your in business.
One reason I like this rig is that it has enough mass to bang on the bottom. If I know there a perch down there and they are not biting I bounce the perch rig on the bottom a few times and it turns them on. Why I don't know.

Thanks for the insight, but are you sure it is for perch? I've used the spreaders with two arms that hang off the line for perch, but this rig was made out of super heavy wire.

The NAS spreader rig is made by NAS in Marblehead. You can check them out on their web page.(www.bestbait.com).I have a friend that trolls with them with harness on them .one trip last year he caught 17 of our 20 eyes on them .He wouldn`t give me one to use because I was making fun of him for using them.
