MWC Question

Do any of you think there need to be changes in the MWC for 2008? Changes in divisions, entry fees, payouts, tv coverage, etc.

Just wondering what others think.

It appears obvious that the people that fish this circuit (myself included) do not feel that any changes are necessary.

Far from true Pete.
But if you say something you might not be able to fish the circuit.

I know guys who fish MWC and they only have good things to say about it and how well ran it is what changes could there be?, not everyone will always agree with schedule and everyone wants higher payouts but what else could there be? My buddies are urging me to fish it as they are well run and they put on a good tourney, they have done a good job of selling me on why I should fish them, I'm thinking hard about two tourney's in the East.

There are topics that should be discussed. The displeased anglers just bite there tongues cause your beating a dead horse.

Since your not registered what are they then??? With me thinking about fishing them I'd like to hear about it. The way I see it, no tourney circuit is perfect so what do you expect?

the 2008 schedual looks great if your from wisconsin or close.. expect it to fill fast... illinois river... no problem great time... bago hottest bite of the year,,, lake is full of fish...for all to enjoy.. and the bay of green bay and that launch location will be a great tournament ... big big fish good date.. sleeper body of water that time of year it should be a blast.. all locations are close within a four hour drive or so from a giant population of good walleye fisherman and most should have some familiarity with these bodies of water if they have been traveling for tournies or good fishing for a wile.. now i just need to get up the stones to jump in all three,, a couple weeks off of work.. we will see.

Not beating a dead horse, just asking what others think.

I know for the first time in something like over a decade they didn't fill the MWC Spring Valley.

I've heard the East events were poorly promoted and never fill. The real east events, not Michigan.

I've heard the publicity is terrible for the events. Tough to promote your sponsors when the circuit you fish relies on past history to fill events.

I've heard grumblings from various tournament anglers that except for entry fees it costs just as much to fish the MWC as it does Pro/Am events with not much payback.

I've heard that the entire show is boring, TV, onstage MC personalities, etc.

I've also heard that the "rules" meetings are a farce and rules aren't gone over there. Instead it is like a commercial for sponsors.

I've also heard some anglers feel those who run the events don't respect them and talk down to them as though they were little kids.

I've also heard all of the previously mentioned positive things as well.

I don't know if any of this is true or not. I am considering fishing these events as well and would like some civil discourse to help me and others in the decision making process. Input from those who fish the MWC would be greatly appreciated.

I fished the Green Bay event. My only gripe is the weigh in. Just one big cluster mess. I'm sure there's logic behind it but it takes forever. Boats are bumping into each other. People cutting each other off trying to get in line. Lots of hard feelings and many evil stares. There has got to be a better way. Maybe three or four flights. Maybe give people numbers as they come back and then have them follow that order to the weigh in. After an exhausting ten or eleven hour day(from the time you get up till weigh in) a person only has so much left. Then on day two must get everything together for the long ride home. It stops being fun after awhile. Other than that it's a blast. Just might fish em all this year.

I have done the MWC for two years here is my two cents some positive some critical but not too critcal. First off the schedule for next year is short of being the best schedule ive seen in all the circuits. Kristine and crew took the time to listen to anglers and put together a great circuit. I am really looking foward to next year for that. The meeting at first for me did seem like sponsors meetings and it did bother me at the beginning (1st year) but the more i thought about it the more i thought ya know it is are responsiblity as professional anglers do know all the rules we are adults and can read. Kristine does go over procdure which is the most important thing. Kristine holds us to the highest standard and so she should since we are all professional anglers. As far as them costing as much as a pwt or flw i beg to differ ive done all of them. At $700.00 and splitting the cost with another person its not even clost in cost.

My two complaints and ive been saying this from the beginning. The One person Weighing in procdure needs to be changed. Are sponsors pay big bucks for there professional anglers to be on stage when everyone is watching to advertise. Its not fair to them nor the anglers themselves for exposure to only do the one person . Now i know the argument is that in the central that with 200 boats that it cant be done so with that being said they cant do the east. Well just as a example the flw bass has over 200 anglers x 2 with coanglers and they do it. It would be as simple as how the pwt does it with you take a number when you come in and they call you on the radio when its your turn. Its very organized and keeps the weigh in organized so everyone isnt craming in and cutting people off to get there fish weighed.

My second and its not really a complaint just which it could be different. I never liked the rule that if you break down and cant make it in the your dqd for the day . The only scenario i always think about with this rule is you get sent out in a small craft which it does happen in the MWC not complaing about it just saying it happens you have a great day with a big catch and your coming in and because your in a small craft something happens to your boat and you cant make it in you cant make it in in time and you cant give your catch to someone else so your the big zero for the day. Wow what a feeling that would be that you just spent all this money all week and time and because of something from mother nature you just pulled a zero and your basically out of the tourney. Now i know why its there to prevent people from combining catches and cheating but im a firm believer that a lock only keeps a honest person honest and a cheat will always find a way to cheat. Just wish there was a great idea that could make this a better situation.

With all that being said i have promoted the MWC Heavley this fall since the new schedule being out and know of 5 new teams that are going to do. Its by far the toughest anglers out there and the schedule is awesome hope to see ya in April.Gary Zart Blue Dolphin

The MWC is a good team tournament. Lots of great sticks. But here is the reality check. #'s of early birds dropped in 07' from 06'. Big time. Some of that was from scheduling and possibly the economy. I believe the problem is that the teams from the central do not like to be lumped in with the east. The team of the year is silly because it is not a true TOY. It is a mix and Match of points. It should be like the FLW, 4 tourneys head up! In 07 85 central early birds. There were 13 in the east! What a joke. There numbers are going down in there 4 years as a division. But the championship and madness are Erie East tournaments? Also another big slap in the face is the fact that all east tournaments have "blow" days in the schedule, but the central does not?
People from the central are minorities but yet they are the ones keeping it afloat. Wake up MWC and quit biting the hand that PAYS!

I will be sitting out the mwc this year because of a knee replacement I just had. I think the new sch. looks great to kinda jump start the mwc from last year. One thing I will agree on is the blow day issue. If you want to fish big water in both divisions it should be the same rules. I dont know one central team that would turn down a travel day on sunday. Nothing like a 6-8hr ride home after a tourney on sunday night.

I would always like to see a better system for handling the fish in all tournments. Its astonishing how many quality fish we loose to each and every tournament. Lots of big fish are lost out of Green Bay and similar bodies of water many times each year. I wish I had a better idea myself.

The Dubuque weight-in was excellent for handling of fishing and keeping them alive. I thought that was one of the best runned weight-in events the MWC has had.

I fished the MWC for 3 years took a year off fished it again in 2006 and the championship this fall at Erie. I won't be fishing it again for a while. First the central schedule is good if you're from Wisconsin and it will probably be good for the MWC but if you're not from the Green Bay/Winnebago area the odds are against you, I bet a lot of the teams fishing in 08 call the Green Bay/Winnebago there home waters. I thought the championship this year was kind of a joke. The check in and weigh ins took way too long and I'm pretty sure there were a lot of fish that didn't make it after the weigh in. The crowd didn't look very big. The payout after the top 3 places was poor, sure there's no entry fee for the championship but you spend a lot of money on expenses. There are a lot of good anglers fishing the MWC so it's very tough competition which is ok but I believe your efforts and money would have a better chance of being rewarded fishing other circuits.
