I am looking at buying a Minnkota Power Drive 50 with a 48" shaft. Does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad on the unit. It will go on a Alumcraft 16' vbottom. The present 48" shaft has always done a good job, but just need more POWER.

Thanks in advance

I put a Minnkota PD50 12 volt 54 inch on our 18 foot smokercraft last year. It seems to work fine except when it gets really rough (really sucks battery juice running on top speed). I have 2 batteries hooked up to it and running it all day non-stop, the batteries usually will last a 10 hour day. I should have gone to a 65lb, 24 volt system but did not want to spend the dough. I like the foot contol on the Minnkota.

I have the Minnkota PD 50 on a 16 ft. Sylvan Expedition. I believe a 48 inch shaft. Plenty of power, runs all day, still have plenty of battery left. Don't like the wind so when the motor comes out of the water I head for shore.
Thanks

I have a minnkota PD50 with a 54" shaft on an alumacraft tournament pro 170cs and it has plenty of power and you can fish all day with two batteries. It take a little more juice when its windy but usually no problems.
