Fished the Super Pro there last year. It will take 45-52 pounds over the 3 days due to slot limit. No difference if live bait or artificial.

I love fishing these waters, fish it as much as I can. So many different tactics will work on any given day. Fish clear or dirty, shallow or deep, live bait or plastics doesn't really matter. The fish are literally everywhere, guarenteed fish.

Don't agree with the comment "no difference between livebait and artificial" If that were the case why did the Super Pros quickly change from their Gulp etc. to livebait. It sure didn't take long when the saw their co-anglers outfishing them 2-0. This comes from the co-anglers themselves. I heard one pro winned all day that his Gulp sponsor was going to dump him if he didn't do well, he didn't do well. Plastic didn't work on Wabigoon but some cranks did so pros make sure you have trays and trays of cranks, maybe something will work.

Hi I am from Dryden, and fish Wabigoon lake alot. Wabigoon is known for its murky water due to the amount of clay on the shores and bottom of the lake. Generaly you want something that will make some noise due to the poor visability. But there are other lakes that are part of the chain of lakes that are very clear. Live bait works well if you are looking for just some good eaters, but if you are looking at winning a tourny you are going to need to use cranks. But to the person or people who say that plastics won't work, you are just taking another option away from yourself that could end up helping you to win a tournament.

Last year the day after the Super pro tourny in Dryden I went out and fished a hump that I knew of that came up to 9 feet surrounded by 20 feet of water. I usually throw cranks onto the hump and catch some nice 24-27" fish, but it was calm, sunny, hot, and the fishing was slow. So I went small. I put on a 1/4 ounce jig with a 3"minnow plastic minnow from gulp. I slowly jigged and pulled in a 31" Walleye, I have caught some nice walleye out on Wabigoon and at the right times and in the right places they were caught on plastics. I don't eat fish to much but I love to learn how to catch the big Walleyes. I fish at least 2/3 of a year for walleye and love every minute of it. I am hoping to turn pro in the next couple of years if everyting goes good. I am also fishing in all 5 of the PWT tournys this year, hope this helps. See you on the water

Guys with all due respect that is simply not true. You can catch all kinds of Walleyes on the Wabigoon chain without live bait. Casting cranks and gulp minnows to shallow reefs and points works awesome.

Also verticle jigging with gulp minnows and leech's works very well and no I am not sponsored by Berkeley but their products do work very well on Wabigoon.

I really like the idea of going to all artificial and not having to deal with live bait. I think you will find that the Pro's will adapt just fine and the weights will be just as they were last year.

When I mentioned to some of the Team Canada that it would be artificial only they were very happy aboout that.

Look for a Canadian to be on top!!

This will be a be a great event and will show a Walleye event can be sucessful using only artificial baits. I was fortunate to hear both Al and Ron Linder speak tis winter and they both said this is the direction walleye events need to go in and when it come to fishing these guys know what they are talking about. Also its much bettter for all the sponsores that support walleye events.

When is the last time bait live bait supported an event?????

Good luck to Team USA, it looks like Gary picked a heck of a team.

Hey John!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you get this message would you email me your phone number so I give you a call. I fished with you last year as a co in Chamberlain and had a great time. I have qualified for the Cabelas National Team Championship again this year and it is at Mobridge SD. I was hoping I could possibly hook up with you and do some prefishing for my tournament while you are prefishing for the PWT. I will not be fishing the PWT as an amatuer this year due to lack of vacation.

Thanks John

I'd like to know how in the world someone thinks that he can pick 25 guys to compete with that list of U.S. anglers. A piece of advise..........with gloves on John, because I'd hate to see you bending the rules! Lots of luck. Go Canada!

You folks seem to be implying that the USA list is published. Perhaps I'm challenged but I can not find it. Could one of you point me to it if it's available.. Thanks..

Another question, Will the co angler (I hate armature) have to match the pro in citizenship?

Last question, I hope the US dollar can maintain it's value, as I don't want to loose money cashing in US bucks from my winning bets!!!

One must assume that the challenge to find 25 "Top" anglers in Canada is more difficult than meets the eye. I have heard through the grapevine of Canadian anglers that some of the best anglers have declined as well as even one PWT pro not even being asked. What's up with that? I wonder if anyone has any idea how team Canada is being selected? Is the process as detailed as Parsons for team USA?

Lots of truth there Guys will be Very interesting.I will be shocked if he finds the guys thats why the delay FYI.

Actually that is not the issue. The issue is we have more than enough guys wanting to fish. I am waiting on several to work out their summer vacation details. It's much harder for these guys to get the time off than the guys who fish the PWT on a regular basis.

I want to make sure I give us the best chance to win so if I need to wait a few more days I will. I am looking for the guys that I feel will give us the best chance on Wabigoon.

It is much harder to pick a team when you don’t know most of the guys. It's a long process to check their histories and references.

One thing I will also not do is compromise the reputation of the event or the sponsors so anyone who has had any past bad history fishing Canadian tournaments were not considered or removed from the team. That has caused some of the delay. I easily could have had the team picked in a few days but I feel it’s too important of an event not to take my time.

As far as the top Canadian Anglers not fishing the event I am not sure where that information came from but be assured they are fishing. They are just working out some details.

Some will question my picks and that’s ok. A lot went into the decision and more than just well he fished here he fished there why is he not fishing the Can-Am? To me this is more than just a tournament it’s about the future of fishing and many of these guys have been working towards the goal of fishing the PWT and I feel they deserve their chance.

The guys on both sides are representing their countries and I am sure both Gary I do want the best anglers and ambassadors on our respective teams.

There is no doubt the US has a huge advantage when it comes to the amount of anglers they have to choose from but I know when it comes to quality we are on a even playing field.

Respectfully

John Butts

Why are you being so hard on John? Did you get passed over when he picked the Canadian team or something?

Just curious...
