I found this interesting article on the Bassmasters. It's about the TV Production. After reading it, I think we all get a better idea of why the coverage of walleye tournaments isn't close. The cost must be UNREAL!!!

Add to the cost of television production the actual costs of running a professional tournament company and you are in the multi-million dollar annual budget range.

That multi-million dollar budget is the expenditures for a real professional tournament trail. Before they even start the season they need a war chest with millions of dollars already in place.

I know personally that the BASS production company was spending over $50,000 just on the use of helicopters per tournament a few years ago.

Why... so he can write it down for them if a BASS official asks how to give away $1 million to the winner at a bass fishing championhsip?

Better yet, I talked with Steve Hoffman here today as well.

They are taking notes, but only time will tell if the Walleye game can ever catch up.

THis is my first Classic and I promise it will not be my last. Words cannot describe the electricity that is in the air. It is simply awesome.

Johnnie are you going out on the water during the day following the fisherman? or are you just catching all the events around the Classic and then catching the weigh ins? I thought about going to next years Classic in LA, I bet the crowds are incredible. Give us somemore info when you can........

Nope your missing the point, it's to look at the execution of the event from a viewers perspective(onsite &TV), apply this to the product of walleye fishing, and to come back with a vision in mind.

I think there's several similarites in the way bass conducts there broadcasts that could be applied to the walleye broadcasts at minimal costs.

The classic is planned out until 2011, that tells me there directors are looking ahead and planning out a minimum of 3 years ahead. What's the PWT doing?

"It took time for Classic to gain momentum" ...I read this one & it tells of the method that Scott used after a s-l-o-w start to BASS after several years...

I have a dumb question? What was those tube looking things that stuck up off the transom on those bass boats? Some had one some had two? Anyone know?

They are spikes that anchor the boat in shallow water.

Those are "Power-Poles". It is a shallow water anchor. Push a button and they unfold and stabb into the bottom of the lake to hold you like an anchor. Kind of an eye sore hanging off the back of the boat but it would come in handy at times even for us walleye guys. Hate to addmit it but I was home sick all weekend and watched every minute of the classic and loved it. Can only hope to see a walleye event brodcasted at that level someday!!

Did anyone catch the final night when they laid the music beds on the blast with some Skynnard and Foghat...with the choppers in pursuit? ESPN probably already had bought the rights for some other stuff they produced but stuff like that just sets BASS so far apart from everybody it is amazing....and just think the FLW got the Hulkster.....they are still in the minor leagues man...
