Aquaman, thanks for sharing. If it makes even one person think before driving on the ice it was a good lesson learned.....alot cheaper than for those in the pictures.

I hope all the fishermen in MICH are a little smarter than those guys were .

Hard to believe they parked them all in a row like that. One word comes to mind... "duh."

This was a snowmobile race in DL and it "used" to be a common thing to stack the rigs like this. Don't think it will happen again. Doh!

That was my first thought: gee, could they have parked them a little closer together?

I just sent out a companywide e-mail announcing our corporate ice-fishing outing this weekend, saying that we would have deluxe motorhomes out there to cater to everyone's needs, as well as a webcam for everyone to view the fun. For the "webcam", the e-mail linked to the pictures you provided.
Although it's small consolation (actually, none whatsoever, probably) to those involved, their calamity wasn't a complete loss. Everyone here is getting a kick out of it. :-)
1st thing that I thought of, too.
I think we're looking at a couple Darwin Award Nominees in those pictures.
The contents in those pit crew trailers(tools) maybe more expensive than the rigs themself.

Oh man that made my day...Thanks for sharing.
Looks like they still had room on the ice for a few armored tanks and personnel carriers...Doh!

Hey! And you thought YOU were having a bad day!! }>
I'd just have to go and cry in my beer, for sure!!
Do you know how deep the water was there? Just curious.
Thanks for the pics Eric.

One of the photos shows the shoreline a scant few yards away...I guess they figured the ice offered more safety than terra firma.
We are talking about Ice Sled Racers here are we not? Not exactly the smartest group known to mankind. They're probably too busy waxing up their pretty-boy snow-outfits and trimming their mullets than checking ice depths. Thanks for sharing the pics...had a good laugh.

Was anyone smart enough to park there trailers on shore that weekend or did they all just fallow each other out on the ice like sheep?
Baaaa..........Baaaa..........Baaaaaaa.........SPL OOSH!!!!!
We had close to 2 weeks of t-shirt weather prior to that weekend. When I heard that I just shook my head and was glad to hear nobody was hurt.

I also forwarded these to my cousin in Louisiana who will be here in February to fish with me. His first time ever in the winter. I received a call from him within minutes of sending it and his shaky voice told me he was totally put off with the notion that one could fall in. He wanted to know if we could just buy the fillets somewhere. I am still chuckling from the call.
Have a good weekend....y'all!

Aquaman,
At least they weren't in deep water! Probably "Michiganders"! Ha.Ha.

Thanks for the pictures!
I'm not sure I'd be calling the cat black~ referring to these ice sled racers as dumb/stupid.
As every weekend I go out Ice fishing I see at least a dozen complete "MORONS" driving on less than 10" of ice with popping and cracking going on all over.
I was told we 5 more took a drink in the eastern part of the state last week.
Just be careful whom we are calling stupid, because I'm sure these "MORONS" consider themselves to be fishermen.

Did you like the mullet joke?

Please guys. This Detroit Lake is not a Michigan lake. Those are not Michiganders.
I think it is one of those states west of Lake Michigan ;-)
Homer

You're right, Bob. If they were Michiganders, their trailers would be on large ice floes, drifting out into Lake St. Clair or Saginaw Bay. :-)

Monday morning: "Hey boss guess what"? I know you guys took first place! "No it has to do with the tractor trailer and equipment"! Bet there were some very unhappy companies in this case.

The phone call home to the wife goes something like this. "Uh, honey. UMM....can you drive up here and pick me up. I uhhh...I sunk the whole rig in the lake. Oh, and can I borrow your car to get to work on Monady?"

In addition to wrecking thier rigs there was also a towing bill for $45,000. I wonder if insurance covers that mess?
I heard about this event! Trying to figure out 1) Why they were out there, as I heard 12" of ice max and 2) If it was that thin, why did they park that close together? It's simple science and math. Too much weight and pressure, something had to give!
Any final tally on the total dollar amount that was ruined or damaged? What a nightmare for the individuals and their insurance companies!

That bill was for the whole group right??
I believe insurance Will Not cover it. Also there will probably be a fine from the DNR and the EPA also. An expensive lesson that I am sure they will never forget.

Looks as though they guy's could have used a "distributer" if not a bucket of brain cells.
Concentrate all the weight in a small area? Goood idea. Things must of got peacful in a hurry! :)

Part of the story is missing. These guys do this on a regular basis. I'm sure there has been hundreds of times that they've parked their rigs in this manner. Truth be told, it's not all their fault. WSA, the sanctioning body that oversees this, and hundreds of other races, ice, and snocross, informed the participants that the ice was safe. They took their word for it, and suffered the consequences. I try not to laugh too hard at another man's misfortune. No matter how much you think you know, there are always unforseen circumstances that turn around and bite you in the butt. You never can tell when something unfortunate will happen to you, then how would you feel if people laughed at you, and called you names? Hmmmmm?

By the looks of the last photo they were only off shore about 20-30 feet. These are the kind of people that keep me in business. Had to laugh at this one!!!!!!!!!
