There is seven inches of snow on the ground and the only thing to do is check Walleye Central and dream of better times to come. Got to thinking about Francis Case and wondering what the main forage base is for that body of water. I have read that some of the reservoirs in the Dakotas have smelt as the main forage but I got the impression that was mostly on Oahe. Is that right? What about Lake Sharpe? Thanks in advance for your help.

I know one of the types of forage in Francis Case is Gizzard Shad. In late summer you will sometimes see large schools of them near the surface.

In the past it was mainly smelt, but it now is more fingerling white bass....

further north on the system, there is an abundance of them and the fish are really starting to look healthy....hopefully the same numbers start to appear in Francis Case.
