What is your favorite method & lure for Ice-in' Saugeyes?

Big common shiner hooked through the back to hang level on a teardrop jig about the length of a paper match. Color - green, orange, and chrome. Favor chrome. Before dark about six inches off bottom, after dark about a ft. With slip bobber or very soft rod.

tipups - same deal but with a tiny treble and a small splitshot.

Big fatheads work fine, but the little s-eyes tend to drop the bigger shiners :) Used but unchewed shiners (6 tipups) get tossed back in the bucket for the next trip.

I've never ANY luck w/raps or pimples though I know guys use raps on both IL & BL. Rocker minnows/back hooked minnow works. KV took a few yr before last on Buckshot rattle jigs/minnow head and maybe on a rap/minnow head.

Need to fool around more 2 ft off bottom after dark. It does work, just can't say if it's better. We were teasing some up to where they junped out of the hole winter before last on BL. Last winter, I passed on the ice @ BL for open water.

You still doing the stinger/split shot rig? Tipped? Favored colors?

May we all catch one bigger than Mr. Bang's,
jc

re: stinger/split shot rig ~ No .. for neutral eyes the other JC turned me on to vib Es last fall/winter & they work as well if not better, without the line tangles. I start with 2 rigs ~ the one above for neutral .. and for the active ones, the White/Red Dot Rapala jig which covers a larger bottom area .. then I switch both to what the eyes tell me :-) "I don't do Bait!" ~ taint sportin' :-)

PS .. the R-jig pulled a 9 up last Jan ~ didn't think I could ever get it's head started up the hole without cuttin' the line.
