What kind of rod, reel, and line do you use when jigging slabs or spoons that weigh over 3/4 oz?

When I bought mine I asked the same question here on WC. Everyone said a 6 1/2 ft medium to medium heavy trigger stick. I bought a MH action rated to 1 1/2 oz in both 6 1/2 and 7 foot. The 7 footer is my bouncer rod and Pike stick. The 6 1/2 footer is spooled with 10 lb XT.

I use a 6' medium heavy trigger stick with a Penn baitcaster spooled with 10/4 fireline. My most productive spoon this fall was The Fergie (3/4 or 1 oz) in white followed by Chart. Soon the ice will be thick enough to get out and try them in hard water season.

i bought a combo from BPS on sale for $49.99 it came with a 6 1/2 ft medium to heavy rod and a baitcasting reel ( Diawa ) i spooled it with 14 lb trilene and so far it works great, i jig a lot of 3/4 oz silver buddies and 1 oz znd also the rapala jigging minnow.

I am using a St Croix 6 1/2' Medium heavy with a fast tip and jigging spoons/and my secret weapon from 3/4 to 2. oz in 40-70' of water all off 6# fireline.

I use a 6 foot Shakespeare medium action baitcaster with ten lb.
Fenwick flexline or 10 lb. fireline. I use 1oz. white/chrome scales
jigging spoons I special order out of Texas. This setup has produce 70 fish days on Pueblo Res. when the stars and planets allign the right way. Hope they're in order tommorow cause I'm heading down there
in the morning for my first trip out this fall.

Eric I would recommend a med/hevy 7ft IM-8 rod with 6-30 proline braid.
I slab alot and I use Flefly jigin spoons made here in Texas .I use the 3/8 or 1/2 oz size in white with red scales dipped in chart.worm dye. The dye works soooo good.If you need to get in touch with Flefly e-mail me at fishinbell@aol.com

I've got several favorite rods set-up for slabbing. On a spinning rod it's a Fenwick HMX MH 6 ft.'er. For baitcasters with flipping switches for fishing more vertical I use an Ugly Stik Lite 6'M and a G-Loomis GLX 6'6" MF. I thought when I bought the Fenwick it was going to be the perfect rod for heavy spoons. It's just a little too stiff. I much prefer the 2 casting rods. They both have fast action tips and the Ugly Stiks have a graphite wrap on them now for added sensitivity. I use the 2 casting rods for bouncers too due to the quick tips and enough backbone for 3 oz. bouncers. I would recommend a 6' or 6'6" rod with a quick tip flex so it loads soon as you set the hook. 7ft. rods seem to be too limber and slower even in the MH designations I looked at. By going with the M rods I am able to go from 1/4 oz. to 1 1/2 oz. and handle them well for all my needs. I like to feel the rod load at the bottom when the spoon bounces. I also like Fireline. This may enter into your decision.
