I off hand can not remember the name of the company, I believe that they are made by a copy called artic, maybe that is the name of the tip up itself. Anyway, they are a little more money, roughtly 25-30 dollars, hardwoods and spin with ease. I like these for walleye because they pose the least resistance. For other fish the cheaper plastic ones are fine. I have had too many missed flags and dropped bait because of the resistance that the cheaper ones have.

I take good care of them also, something I think most people don't do and results in a few of them going to the garbage. I have 4 of my favorites, all are at least 3 years of. I take them apart and oil them once or twice a year with a good cold weather grease, thaw them after use, and make sure the are in good working order, nothing pisses me off more than having a tip up out for a few hours, pulling it up to find a beat up minnow becasue the tip up didn't pop up and the line stayed tight. Just a thought and I'm sure there are other out there, I've seen some great homemade versions also. I did notice the other day at gander mountain frabill has a model based after the brand I mentioned above, comes in a very similar box and has a similar appearance. I was impressed with them and they were only 15 bucks each, might have to try them this year.

Good luck, Eyewall

I use the cheap orange plastic ones, but I'm going to replace them with something better this year. Like Eyewall mentioned, they suck for walleyes or perch. They're ok for pike, but they tend to freeze or get stuck, especially if they're more than a year or two old. Some guys swear by the magnetic pop-ups, and I've had a few and liked them well enough.

I have been using those orange round insulated plastic ones for a few years now. I really like them. The hole and reel never freeze up. I like watching the crank handle spinning while you approach the hole, you can really see whats going on, if the fish is running, etc, without even lifting the tip up out of the hole. And they fold and store easily in my bucket.

Perchjerker, make sure the line is good on those tip ups, & get the mercury lights for the flags, otherwise I have about 10 lights. I can hear the ice cracking as my fat a** runs for a flag. Are we gonna play full contact tipup. See Ya at LBDN in Jan. Pat
