I'm looking for suggestions for a good fishing vacation in either Kentucky or Tennessee. I prefer walleye fishing but I'm flexible. Last two years we tried Smith Mountain Lake, VA with poor results. This year we are locked into the first two weeks of Aug.
Any suggestion for KY/TN lakes???
Wife loves the creature comforts so I need CLEAN and modern lodging. (I'm still paying for the "rustic" cabin in Michgan four years ago.) SML had beautiful lodging but I couldn't get a handle on fishing that lake.
Looking at Lake Cumberland and possibly Dale Hollow. Are there any suggestion for lakes around Knoxville?

I liike Lake Cumberland. Good for Stripers and lots of Walleye that no one fishes for. Try Nancy guide service for Stripers. It is run by Tim Tarter. His number is 606-866-6644. Lakepoint Lodge has nice new rooms and cabins. Larry's number for that is 502-866-3856.
Bring your spinners and bottom bouncers and crawlers. They don't know what they are down there.
Walleye at that time will be 15-25 feet down on the points. Fish striper early then go to walleye.

Bagman,
Chairman makes a good recomendation for striper guide on lake cumberland, tim tarter. I've fished with him and some of his guides and he does a good job. You may also want to consider Norris Lake in Tenneseee, near Knoxville. Great striper fishing there as well as some walleye. Don't expect the walleye fishing in either lake to be anything number wise like lake erie.
Try posting same message on both KY and TN boards at www.fishin.com.
Also check their fishing reports prior to going. Dale Hollow is a nice lake too, but no stripers and not sure about walleye there. Best walleye fishin' on southern lakes is at night
I'd recommend my home lake, Laurel River Lake, but there are no cabins or lodging available other then houseboat rental, which is something you may wish to consider . Nothin' like waking up in the morning in a nice cove watchin' the fish jump while ya sip your coffee!

Thanks for the info. I will post on the fishin.com. I like the idea of the houseboat rental and tried to convince the wife that would be the way to go. But as you can see I'm still looking for creature comforts for her.

Conley Bottom on Lake Cumberland rents house boats that are as nice as any hotel or cabin that you could find . Air condition ,VCR ,frig and a generator to run all of it.The stripper fishing is great and no one fishes for the walleye , which average last year about 4 to 5 lbs . I just waited at the mouth of the cove we stay in and followed a guide to one of his spots .We have fished the same spot for 5 years with great success . We will be there the last week in July for 7 days.Eat sleep and fish I enjoy it as much as Lake Erie . Like Chairman said no one fishes this lake except the guides . Oh yea my wife and kids like the houseboat as much as I .

Bagman,
If your going for two weeks..or close to it....why not consider visiting a couple of lakes? You could get a "mid-week" special houseboat rental at one lake, then get a cabin at another? I will be HOT then, so air is a must. Houseboats can get expensive to rent for just one couple though. Prices drop after mid august when school starts. Many marina's offer differnt sizes and features. Anything from a small , "barebones" , 42 footer to Luxuriously equipped 80 footers with diesel gen sets, central air and hot tubs! Good luck!
