I was at a local shop yesterday stocking up on ice jigs and line and came across these. Anybody use them? I always use Cicada's, but I have been looking for a bigger blade bait. These weigh 3/4 oz and are much bigger. They should really send out a lot of vibration? Thought they might work for Lakers and pike so i bough some. They are mfg. by Luhr Jenson, so I thought maybe some of you Columbia River boys might be familiar with them?

I like them in lakes but prefer sonars on the river. They are designed to swim in circle which does not help on the river. I do not ice fish but have heard they do well there also.

Cicada's up to 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz Sonars is what the shops around here stock. I have a lake here by my house that i like to cast Cicada's and rip jig them back. It is mostly sand bottom with very few snags. The trout and bass really like them. I think Silver Buddies are available at Bass Pro Shops?

What's happening tinboat? Been hammering then at PH's Res. lately? I was up there thanksgiving day with the boys and we bladed 20-30 in the 18-26" range. I've tried ripple tails on the columbia but they always spun and fouled with the hooks catching on the line, pretty much the same deal in lakes. I pour my own that are like a sonar or silver buddy. I think rippletails require a different, more subtle jigging action to keep them from fouling. I never mastered it and found their cost a little prohibitive for something I was untangling every minute or two. bb

Hi bladebait caught anymore state records lately--thats was some fish!!!
Like blade bait I mostly pour my own and use them either in plain nickle or brass,or with tapes I get from my sponsor we also use silver or gold plated (spendy but awsome).
I have had luck with both cicadas and silver buddies but I'm not crazy about them.
Thanks to having a partner that was on prostaff for Luhr Jensen I have a real good supply of ripple tails and have had good succes with them, they do fish different then the rest so you need use them different, first always use a snap swivel, I use a snap swival the about 20" of 20lb mono and a 20lb bead chain (This is very important or you well have major line twist and fowling) tied to 20lb Power Pro. Next they can be cast and retrived (I have limit practice at this) but when used in a boat they are best fished in a suttle manner, lift and drop slowly about 4" off the bottom then drop back to the bottom and lift again. I have caught lots of walleyes and salmon on these in 1/2 mostly in brass, nickle, white and charteues.
But I agree with blade bait the 1/2 oz heddon style are the best and most popular out here.
