The flat I fish in the spring is not snaggy, but incredibly icky. A round jig of more than an 1/8th will collect goo just trying to feel for bottom. I use ball heads, but is there another shape that would work better when I need something heavier? I usually have to switch to Phelps floaters. They work great, but I like to jig. Thanks.

Stewert, last year on Lake Geneva we had the same problem with green slimy algea growth all over the bottom. The solution in our case was to go to a drop shot rig. A drop shot rig is made with a lite sinker on the bottom of the line, and if Walleye fishing, a floating jig, from 4 inchs, to a couple of feet off the bottom. You can also run it with a plain hook tied on with a Polamor knot, it keeps the hook hanging straight out, and you can nose hook a minnow, worm, or leach to it, plastics too. With the sinker on the bottom you can impart as much action to the bait as you want, by simply wigglying the rod tip, and with the sinker on the bottom, it catchs the snotty stuff and you get the fish. Try it and good luck...redrnger...feel the tug

Try using a stand up jig instead of a round head. Phelps Tackle also makes a great standup. Just a thought. Good luck to you.
