Just wondering what kinda roda you all use when running leadcore. I have 4 trolling rods with mono and fireline but i want 2 more strictly for leadcore. Any suggestions would be great.

Erik,

Since it seems to be a little slow here, I'll give my slightly less than expert ideas. I run lead on 8'6" trolling rods with a slow medium action like you might run braid or Fireline on. Lead has very little stretch. If you run a mono leader (I run 50' leader made of 14/6 fireline) you could probably get away with a slightly shorter/stiffer rod. The longer rods are nice for getting a slightly wider spread w/o boards, also.

Cabela's sells a leadcore rod that is like 6'6" or 7', and after using it, I prefer the longer rods for lead, in the 8-9 foot range, but stiffer than what you would consider a downrigger rod. It's easier to keep slack out of the lead when fighting a fish, in my opinion.

HAS,

Flacon Rods came out with a 8' rod that works great for Lead Core.
I fished 4 of them all of last year and I can't say enough good things about them. They also have a lifetime warranty that is a big plus.
Their around 99.00

Good Luck

I use 2 diawa black widow 9'6" for pulling lead core. I dont use a mono leader,I use fireline just because I fish mostly the Miss. river. The longer rods are easier to spread out to the sides and take up shock of a bigger fish. Just my way of doing it,John Mannerino

I use 2 different rods for lead. Shimano 1804's and Daiwa Heartland 10' 6".You can get a pretty good spread with the lead on boards using those long rods. I thought the 1804 would be too stiff but it works good. Both rods are inexpensive.
