Has anyone tried the professional plus ice rod? I'm looking at the 36inch, and looking for a little feedback before I take the plunge.

Thanks.

save your money unless you intend to finese the bottom or something. If you r jigging spoons or using as a bobber rod, get a $14 special with wide guides.

CD,

I've never used a Thorne Bros. rod, but they do look very nice. If that's what you want, buy it, you'll be happier in the long run.

Thorne brothers make some great ice rods, no argument from me there.

I had some sticks made to order by Rod Engel of "Rods by Engel". The price was great and he made them to order from top grade blanks and components. Discuss what your needs are and I bet he can make it or make recommendations on the best options. The rods I have of his are my ice treasures, love them.

He builds rods in the winter mostly so you will likely get it made fairly fast.

If your interested he can be reached at 218-891-4415 or 218-289-0773.

Since we are on the topic, kinda. A couple of years back I had a heavy duty predator rod made by someone I met on WC, I think? A great rod! It is still my best big fish ice rod and it has held up to some serious use with no worries. I sure wish I new who he was? I lost the address and email due to a move and a computer crash, and to this day I still owe him a BIG favour. It still bugs me too Eh. Whoever you are if you read this drop me a email. I was not ungratefully, just careless and forgetfully is all, sorry.

i have a 36" that i made

i love it

thorne bros blanks are second to none there has been alot of companies trying to copy the blanks but noone can do it

my only complaint about the profesional is i don't like the big guides these rods are designed to not ice up but as i said on another post i don't feel that guide size keeps guides from freezing thats my opinion

as far as a ice rod goes thorne bros has been a leader in design and inovation in my opinoin buying anything else is at best a marginal rod by my standards

no i don't work there

I just bought a 36" in glass. It is really stiff compared to most ice rods. If you plan on using the heavier jigging lures, as I do, you will probably like it. I doubt you would ever get overmatched with it. The workmanship is outstanding and I can't wait to try it out. Heavy lures and heavy fish require a heavy duty rod ;)

I have two deadsticks and two walleye models. One is a 44 inch pro model.
If you're a person that doesn't appreciate the finer things in life then you will find these rods are not for you....
Each of the rods has its own nitche and works for me.

Great rods that are way overpriced. You can buy rods just as sensitive for half the price.

I get a lot of my components from Throne Brothers - for my own rod building and find that they are really great folks.

If you like one of their pro rods - but don't like the larger guides; tell them, and they will build you one, with the size guides that you like.

Take care
