: Hang Onto Your Hats. Storm Lures Are Back.
Walleye Express 12-23-2002, 11:30 AM Ladies and Gentelmen. Heres my Christmas present to all of you. I've kept this under my hat for a while, and have had a hard time doing so. I am honored to have recieved, scrutenized and tub tested some and the very few of the first new lures Produced by David Storm, son of Bill Storm and nephew to all those beloved Storm guys who made the now defunct (true) Hot-N-Tot and lure related friends. Both the company and the lures name of course is different. The company name is Daves Ka-Boom Baits and the lures name is The Winning Streak. Dave has retained many of the old crew and the design technologies used in the old Tot maufacturing process. I guess its no secret that I'm both partial to the Storms personally and to the great lures they made in the past. But the proof has always been in the pudding. And not much escapes the scrutinizing eyes of a good fisherman when it comes to things built well and that works on the fish. Here are some of my honest opinions on this lure, without actually having tried it on the true lure tester, the walleye.
It comes in the 1/4 ounce size. The right size in my own estimation for a lot more applications than the bigger size. It appears to me to be a cross between a Rattle Tot and a Hot-N-Tot. Has a rattle in the body, and a hardened aluminum lip and connector link, like the old model Tot. It seem real stable and has an erratic swimming action. Honestly, not quit the searching action his cousin had, but close. Comes in 36 colors and has a lot of my own favorite Saginaw Bay colors included. Comes with #4 Aberdeen Short Shank, Eagle Claw, Wide Bend hooks. I scanned both catalog pictures and color charts sent to me and will share same with anybody wanting to see them. There supposed to be in the stores by late January. Cabelas, Gander Mountain and all the big local outlets around the Saginaw Bay are supposed to have them as well. This will indeed be a Merry Christmas and happier New Year for me and thousands of other walleye junkies.
JimRK 12-23-2002, 11:41 AM Thank you for the update. Glad you can not keep a secret.
You the man - Dan
Will be buying some when they arrive in the stores.
Happy fishing to all!
eyebuster 12-23-2002, 11:54 AM Capt. Dan,
I'd like to take a look at them,,,,,,,,ddgordon2001@yahoo.com
Thanks
riskyhooker 12-23-2002, 01:04 PM I would also like a sneak peek. Thanks in advance!!
aquaholic110@aol.com
Fritz 12-23-2002, 03:01 PM Do you know if the deep junior thunderstick is going to be included in there line?
Walleye Express 12-23-2002, 03:28 PM Fritz.
Storm sold all rights to ever make any exact duplicates from their old lines, along with their old name, Storm Lures. Right now Dave Storm, under his new manufacturing name Daves Ka-Boom Lures, is specializing on just one lure, that being the new Winning Streak lure. Those are the ones I recieved for my opinion. My immediate gut feeling about their design, colors, size and dynamics is very positive. The last time I felt this good about a lure was when Storm came out with the Steelie Wart.
Geez. And I just spent a couple hundred bucks buying up as many HT05's as I can while there are still some available. Still looking for some 074's. Just the same, I sure hope the new Winning Streak lures are as good as the old Hot N Tots are/were.
eyechsr 12-24-2002, 12:21 AM I agree with Dan, I also have six of these lures as my sponsor has ordered 150 dozen for the portland sportsman show.
The colors are great the size is great and they should work awesome, My only regret is that I had not gotten then a month sooner when the bite was still good,I'm sure they would have caught both walleye and Steelhead, Who knows still might get a Steelhead yet before the shows, well let you know if I do!!
FEAR NO FISH! 12-24-2002, 11:51 AM Here in the Pacific Northwest, a fella by the name of Brad, bought all the old molds from Storm for wiggle warts and Mag warts. He is also making hot-n-tot's. These are the real deal. The names of the plugs are called Brad's Wigglers. He has also improved the paint jobs with some real interesting designs.
Walleye Express 12-24-2002, 04:31 PM Fear No Fish.
Take no offense, But if Brads Wigglers is making the original Hot-N-Tot, my news of this new lure being made by Dave Storm pales in comparison.
I'd be very interested in having you let me and the thousands of other walleye junkies, who have been pulling their hair out for 3 years now, especially the ones paying up to $10.00 each for the (hard to find tot colors), what this guys Phone number, e-mail address, web site or carrier pigeon route is.
Unless this guy has lived under a rock for the last 3 years, he's not doing a very good job letting the screaming tot public know he's making original Hot-N-Tot's and has them for sale.
perchjerker 12-24-2002, 06:12 PM Dont be too hard on the guy. I have seen them around
They arent under a rock.
Look at the Nov. 1st report.
http://www.localfishermannews.com/late_breaking_news.htm
An ESPN article mentions them.
http://espn.go.com/outdoors/fishing/s/f_map_WA_Kalama_River.html
They are mentioned in a few other articles, not a big deal, though.
wa_walleye 12-24-2002, 07:56 PM I have seen the wigglers they appear to be carbon copies of the Storm wiggle warts. I never did use tots but will check. Sporting good store called GI Joe's is where I see the Brad's Wigglers in stock all the time. Will follow up after Christmas and see if there is anything similiar to the tots. They are not shown on their website. Tight lines, Brian
Walleye Express 12-24-2002, 07:59 PM Jim.
On your links. I see where they both show and mention Brads Wiggle Warts and Brads Mag Warts. Didn't see any Hot-N-Tots shown or mentioned. I have an e-mail into the man who will know for sure. Just seems to unbelievable that the original Hot-N-Tot's design would still be made and nobody in the walleye world would know about it. Am I wrong here?
one who knows 12-24-2002, 11:02 PM Storm in NO WAY sold original molds to ANY of their fishing lures! Guaranteed.
eyechsr 12-25-2002, 02:18 AM One Who Knows is correct, the molds were not sold and brad does not have them, he does however sell what looks to be an exact copy although he claims not to have, even the package is the same as are most of the colors, when I questioned some of his employees they did hint that there where lawyers involed in the issue, but at least for now you can still get them easily here in the Northwest.
As for the HOT-N-TOTS the only ones that I have seen him with are the larger ones in three colors (red, green or chrome) and are sold as bait divers (no hooks) a common steelhead menthod here. So for now you should get ready to try the new Daves Kaboom Lures ( Winning Streak's) they should be at least as good.
Walleye Express 12-25-2002, 07:02 AM Eyechrs.
Thank you for your post. The (one who knows) also sent me a return e-mail this morning confirming my thoughts on the matter, along with further information as to why it's highly unlikely anybody bought the molds from Storm Lures. And equally unlikely that they bought them from Normark. I wont rub salt in the wound by posting this e-mail now. I guess anybody duplicating any molds that may have pattents on them, takes his own financial welfare in his own hands. You'll have to forgive my passion on this matter. I dont know about you guys, but I was bumbed out about as much as a man could be, when I heard that Storm was selling. And then really gut shot when I seen how the Hot-N-Tot line was changed in the process. I'm hoping strongly that Dave Storms new lures Kicks walleye ^ss. It sure looks like a winner.
mudpuppy 12-25-2002, 05:05 PM Wouldn't mind trying some of the new "tots" . Went through this whole rumor thing about storms molds & dies a year or so ago & the patent & copyrights & the whole nine yards on this forum . The wiggle wart rep.'s look good , too . Wouldn't mind trying them either . Storm nor any body else can re-make the original . The Producers have the patent to the metal lip which was the only patent involved . They're making Double Downers , which in my humble opinion , work as well as the original . They're what I use for a replacement . Been using Wiggle-O's" as a replacement for the warts . Glad to hear the Storm's are getting back in business . They designed some of the greatest lures ever . The drama continues .
greyhair 12-26-2002, 10:27 AM Oh what fun it is to read about Dave's KA-BOOM! Baits by Dave's Lures.
I too have seen and test run the Winning Streak that David Storm designed. When you compare the Winning Streak to his dad's original Storm lure, you'll see that the "Streak" is a brand new lure with a great "experienced" lure action you'd expect from someone with the family pedigree. This "kid" has his dad's natural ability and will be building some major "hits".
In addition to the Portland, OR sports show mentioned where Dave's Winning Streak will be available, a friend told me a dealer will have the Winning Streak in the Detroit (Ford) show and a couple others.
Thanks, Capt.. Dan, for sharing this exciting news. Looking foward to hearing more from you!

Walleye Express 12-26-2002, 06:00 PM Thank's Greyhair.
I know if you (West Coast Boys) are as excited about the Winning Streak Ka-Boom Lures as I am, My gut feeling about them should be well founded. I once took Buzz Ramsey of Lur-Jenson fame, along with his new wife at the time, steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette River. Out of respect for Buzz, I/we used #30 Hot-shots all day on day one. On day two, Buzz knew I was dying to go back to my 109 Wiggle Wart. Lur-Jenson didn't have that Flame Red/Gold color at the time. Nor does their Hot-Shot lures have that Wart action. The wart was one busy lure on day two. Buzz being the nice guy that he is, took it like a man. He also sent me a dozen of there new Hot-Shot colors 2 weeks later. Flame Red/Orange. I think that say it all.
Capt Dan.
Do you ever use any spoons when fishing.
Pa
Walleye Express 12-27-2002, 08:52 AM Pa.
If your tallking about for Salmon or Steelhead, Yes and No. Definately yes on the Big Lakes for both species, and no on the rivers. I know guys who do and have pretty good luck doing so though. In fact some guys strickly specialize with spoons on the west coast rivers for steelhead.
I was a spinner man in conjunction with plugs for a few years for Salmon on the rivers I fished. But after discovering and catching twice as many salmon while casting Thunderstick Jr's, I sold all my spinners.
Now as for walleye, I have begun to change my theories lately on that score. I used to catch a couple extra fish years ago using a very small spoon off a three way, above a 1/4 tot. It was only something I did for a short time and didn't seem worth the effort. But, after my first trip to Huron Ohio this past October with Bob Keeney on the Just Look'N, I have to say the little stingers spoons used are a big part of this successful technique. And ths size of the fish caught on these little rascles are amazing.
Rudy (PA) 12-28-2002, 06:54 PM HI Capt.
E Mail me your address and ill send you a few of our new Holographic Spoons. Compare them to all the other spoons you have ever seen and then let me know your honest opinion, hows that for a deal.
Rudy (PA)
Pas Fishing Lures Inc.
Walleye Express 12-28-2002, 07:32 PM Rudy.
My first instinct of course (like anybodys would be on this board) would be to say, "Come on with it". And I thank you very, very much for the offer. But to be honest, I'd only end up using them maybe a few times a season. Probably not enough to give you a fair assesment of your product. I'm positive though, that if you put as much thought and product quality in your new spoons as you have the Pa's divers, they have to be good.
Thanks for the honest answer,if you ever change your thinking drop me your address.at paslures@aol.com
Have a great and safe 2003.

Please send me more info on the Winning Streak's, I am a central wisconsin walleye guy and would love to replace some of my old hot and tots!
Good Luck

Walleye Express 12-30-2002, 08:33 PM Tyee.
My crystal Ball is broke down, so you'll have to leave me your e-mail address so I can send you the color flyer from Daves Ka-Boom Lures. Then you'll have to wait for the lures to hit the stores in Mid-January/Early February.
Captain Jay 01-01-2003, 03:32 AM Capt. Dan,
Could you please E mail me the charts with the new lures/colors. I will probably be at the Ford show in Detroit to pick some up, but would like to get a look at them ahead of time.
captainjay@ifnwhen.com
Thanks,
Captain Jay
JustLookN 01-01-2003, 05:10 AM I think he is out of town ice fishing for a few days there is a color chart on their website.
greyhair 01-02-2003, 04:54 PM Are you sure they'll have some Winning Streaks at the show? I've heard that's the case. Any idea who'll have them?
greyhair
Walleye Express 01-03-2003, 02:46 PM Capt: Jay.
Just Look'N was right, been gone for 2 1/2 days ice fishing. Put a hurt on the walleyes on Black Lake (see new upper left hand picture). I did send off your chart though. I think the one on the web site isn't quit the same. Let me know if you want the color code chart as well. Shows all 38 new Winning Streak colors. But it isn't the glossy version.
