Got these new lures from Santa, 6cm gmo sinking models. Any expertise out there on how to use these for walleyes. Can they be jigged for ice fishing !

Thanks

You bet. They are a very good jigging option for open water and under the ice.

I have a piece about them on my web site if your interested. I am not sure if I should post my site? Buy if you go to my WC profile my web site address is there, then you can find more info.

The Salmo web site has a lot of good tips on the Chubby Darter.

Check out the Pro-Tips too, there is some more great info there from the "Chubby Guy" Jeff Simpson who helped to developed the Chubby Darter.

I have had good luck on them and on a lake I frequent for fishing my son used one during prime bite and he caught the only 2 eyes for the night while I sat drowning minnows :)

The only down side I can see in the short time I used one last week, is there tendency to catch your other lure. This happens when your second hole is cut to close to the first one. Similar to the Jigging Rapala in its action, they have that (shoot straight out) wherever the head is pointing action. Which is tempered by exactly how far and how severe one lifts the Chubby when jigging it. I usually cut both my holes about 10 to 12 inches apart, from edge to edge. This seemed to close for my own personal jigging technique while using the chubby. If a guy was restricted to the narrow hole placment most portable shantys allow for, he might want not to be so aggressive in his jigging with the chubby. Otherwise, its a neat ice lure that I'm sure will work great.

I have never caught nor talked to anyone that has caught a fish using one of those. They look great, but a group of about 5 of us have used and used and used them with no avail. Its kind of a running joke with us now, we feel we "invested" our $6 in this darn lure, we are going to use it till it produces!! No luck yet.

Ryan.
I would say my short test as well (about 1 hour during prime time), turned up no strikes or fish on the chubby. And my buds did quit well using the regular Pimples and Do-Jiggers during that same time frame. Still in my eyes not a fare shake for any lure, but kind of a bad start.

Oh ye of little faith...Ryan.

Trust me they work, I have caught many species of fish on them but they are not the only lure I carry. Some days they are just not up for certain baits.

Jig the Chubby higher up in the water column then you would another type of jig under the same situation. They tend to draw in active fish better up higher. Beat the mud from time to time but spend most of the time working it up higher. 2-3' off is common, or higher.

Keep the faith, jig and they will come!
