Has anyone tried these new reels and how are they for overall quality? Also what model(47 or 17) would be the best one for walleyes? Would you recommend them and how much are they? Thanks!

Kelly,

Do a search in the General Discussion forum and put in Accudepth and you will get your questions answered I think.

Let me know if you need more help.

Good luck,

Kelly, like the previous post said look in the General Discussion and your question will be answered.

It is in the archives, just do a search including archives with the word Accudepth and everything you want to know is there.

Thanks, but I tried exactly that and found next to nothing useful. I guess I'll keep trying this route. Maybe these reels just haven't been out long enough to get a concensus on overall cost, quality, workability, etc.

a solid reel--fleetfarm has them for 48.99--dual paddle handles the 17 is small enough to comfortably hold when pulling spinners--excellent drag--i have the 17 and the 27 they dont quite hold a candle to the 27lc--but still an excellent reel for the price you can buy two ac's for the price of one lc,

gk,

Explain why they don't hold a candle?

gk,

I’m dumbfounded, I did compare the two side by side at the store and they "appeared" the same to me. I didn't have the opportunity to try them on the water side by side. No line or cranks while fishing, just checked the drag like I always do, looked for smoothness, and looked at exterior components. I'd like to know if anyone had a chance to open them up and look at the interior components or had an on the water test. I'm looking for help. What did you experience? What am I missing?

Dennis, I did a side by side in the store also, about the only difference I noticed was the price! Maybe the insides are different but from the outside they look like a good buy!

Went back again today to play with the reels. They do "appear" to be good reels BUT they do not have any ball bearings, they use bushings instead. I question their ability to hold up in the long run. I'm sure that they'll be great for the weekend fisherman who only uses them a couple of times a year but I can't take the risk at this time. Well maybe just one to play with this season.

The old Diawa`s SG27LC also are bushing .I have had 4 of them for 9 years now with no problems. The new sg27`s now have 2 bearings.

Dennis, I should have mentioned that I am a charter captain on Erie so my reels get put through the "reel" test oh Erie Hogs.

Thanks Erie Guy,

Now I'm up to at least two. For the price it's worth trying.

Any chance there is a Diawa rep in the house? Will be buying two 17's and would really like to know what the difference between the two models are for the 35 dollar swing in price. I can afford the SG's but would be nice to spend the savings on more crankbaits if the internals ( drag / counters ) are the same.
Happy fishing to all.

Have any of you guys seen the new SG17LC? I picked up 2 of them yesterday and they look like they will be the way to go for pulling in line boards. They are just like the SG27LC but just a little smaller. They hold about 300 yrds of 10# mono. They come standard with a double paddle lever on the reel when you buy it. They also have 2 ball bearings. I now just have to figure out what to do with my 6 SG27LC's. I think I am eventually going to get 4 more of the SG17LC's. They will great for people that troll fireline.

I tore apart a accudepth it has aluminum gears instead of the brass gears that the sg models have. If you hold them you can feel the weight diference. They made them cheaper to sell cheaper.

Thanks Mike, the info on the aluminum versus brass is the type of differences I would like to base my decision on.
Happy fishing.

Just looking thru Cabela's Spring Catalog. The description of the Daiwa Accudepth linecounter says "machine cut brass gears promote solid cranking power"
Is there a cabela's rep out there that can say if that a misprint or not?

Mike, have you ever went to the Cableas site and do the live chat with them? Actually, they have been very helpful for me several times. I would ask one of them about it. I would be interested to hear what they had to say!

No, you just go to the customer service link, click on live chat. And it connects you to someone like an instant messenger program. Pretty handy.

lets set the record straight on these reels.....did some research--first of the new accudephs have brass gears-- the sg series are machine cut bronze gears ...the new sg17lca does not have two ball bearings it has oil impregnated bushings-- like all the daiwas have had in the past--the new series of sg27lca and sg47lca have two bearings....accudephs use oil impregnated bushings.... the main differece between these reels is that the bronze gears are much more rugged than the brass...as far as the ball bearing issue ask yourself how have your older sg27's held up---easy question to answer--great...

gk not sure where you got your info from but I am holing 2 SG17LC's in my hands and they do have 2 ball bearings. The box even says 2 ball bearings. These are going to be great reels, even if they did have bushings, which they DONT.

Johnny Rocket,

I think that you're both saying the same thing. The confusion comes in because the new Accudepths are using the same (or real close) model numbers as the Sealines.

The reel you're talking about is the smaller version Sealine SG17LC's and has 2 ball bearings.

The Accudepths that he's talking about use oil impregnated bushings

CHECK OUT THE CABELAS 2003 SPRING CATALOG MAYBE THEY ARE WRONG ALSO BUT THE NEW SG17LC HAVE OIL IMPREGNATED BUSHINGS--IT DOES NOT HOWEVER SAY THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TWO BALL BEARINGS--MAYBE THEY HAVE BOTH--JUST GOING BY WHAT THEY SAY IN THE CATALOG THEY HAVE BOTH MODELS SG AND ACCUDEPHS--

Yes there it is in full color. The AD17LC has bushings and the SG17LC that I purchased has 2 ball bearings. Cant wait to start trolling with them and see if they are every bit as good as the old SG27LC. Thanks for posting the ad, all the reels on that page look great and there is somthing there for everyone from low buck weekend warrior to somone that can or wants to afford the higher priced reel.

If any one is a fan of daiwas as I am, check out their new lineup. Not only do they have a bunch of new trolling reels out, but check out the spinning reels on that same website. Some great reels for good prices. Check out the samurai in particular. Seven ball bearings for 34.99. Great new lineup!

Also note while making your comparisons that the new SG series has an aluminum spool, and automatic clutch engagement. The AD series comes with a composite spool and a manual clutch.
