Check out this story in the rocky. This will be excellent if it passes.http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/recreation_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_85_1655793,00.html

It's a great idea!! And I hope it happens?

But since it is such a smart move it probably won't happen?

Im keeping my fingers crossed, we need a few more located across the Front Range and plains or we will never see anything but Wipers and 12" Walleye in Colorado. They can learn to make Suchi from Carp!

Good fishing!

Sounds like a great idea that needs to make its way south to some NM water.

Good luck Kevin,

I didn't realize that the walleye fishery was all that good in Carter. I have always thought of it as a trout fishery. Are we talking about an occasional bycatch or can you really target the walleye with some success? May have to give it a try this spring.

What is the forage base for the Walleye's and Splake? Crawfish? Trout?

The DNR has been stripping eggs there for several years. Better night fishery than in daytime. I'm not in favor of catch & release fishing.

Oncorhynchus nerka makes this lake tick. I sure hope it goes through. I know I have done my part and let a lot of big fish go out of there. Collie

Neal, Kokanee salmon. They put a lot of rainbows in there and they are food too. Looks like you said Neal, I spoke with Terry Wickstrom at the boat show today and he is on the recommendation board along with Bob Todd and others. Any how he said he had talked to Rick Enstrom, who is a comissioner on the wildlife board and also belongs to the CWA and that proposal went right out the window. They see no reason for special regs. up there. If it were an issue concerning a trophy cold water fishery, they would crank it right through. What a double standard we have here in this state, I guess we can only make special regs. for Salmonids and suckers. Collie

Unbelieveable! But yet you can't keep one or two of the million 16 inch eye's at Pueblo to eat? Why should anyone even waste their time being on one of those commitee's anyway?

That’s because most of the guys making the rules don’t give a rats a$$ about trophy Walleye and couldn't catch one if they did. I was told by our local DOW biologist that Walleye fisherman only makeup 5% of the total fisherman in Co. So let’s put a different spin on that... If true why wouldn't they go along with us and give us what we want 95% of their $$$ wouldn't care so why not give us something to fish for! I have spent TONS of money on equipment and would like to have a chance to catch something bigger in Colorado than 14" Walleye. If it wasn't for early season jitters I don't think I would buy a license in Co. this year. I released all my big fish probably 20-30 of them between 6lbs. and 10 1/2lbs, all out of state last year so I know that they still grow that big. In the late 60's and all through the 70's the lakes in Eastern Co. produced high numbers of large fish all under PASSIVE management! I know because I caught many of them. Prewitt, Jackson, N. Sterling all had HIGH catch rates of fish between 4-9 lbs. Perch was the predominate forage base. Yes we had dry years and low water back then to. So go figure!

Thanks for letting me air out.

Good fishing!
Mike
