anyone have any good ideas for getting light on your rods while trolling at night ? the anchor light tends to blind me and i cannot see the rods when they start to dance.

There are small luminescent tubes that guys use for night fishing with a float...just attach one of them to your rod tip.You could also attach reflective or glowing tape to the rod tip. I think Ugly Sticks had this as an option at one point.

I used to tape one of those cyulinium (spelling?)lights near the rods tips when catfishing at night. We then could keep the lantern turned down on low. Sure beat serving up the million mosquitos a lighted smogesborg on the boat.
I believe they make glow in the dark inserts that simply clip onto the rod near the tip now. Charge them with a light and they last for hours. Can't remember where I seen them.
You could also simply paint a small dab of glow in the dark paint at the end of the rod tip. Or how about those light gathering gun sights. You could find a way to affix that near the tip of the rod. They alluminate pretty good with any available light. Used one for years on my muzzel loader.
Paint about an inch of the tip of each rod with flourecent paint, put a little of the same on the operating part of each item you need to see easily in the boat, such as nets, and get yourself a blacklight for use on cars (can get them at Wall Mart now) and mount it high near the front where it can illuminate the back. It will make all the flourecent paint glow brightly allowing you to see all you need to.

I use the Berkley Reflex trolling rods at night. They have 3x's more reflectiveness in the 3m tape built into the rod guides. I do not have a problem seeing the rods on the darkest of nights. JJ

I use cyalume lightstick and tape or rubber band them to my rod tips,it works pretty good for about three hours. I have also added red camper light through out my boat so I can see very well without losing any night vison--the big columbia tends to send 200' trees loose logs cruising down the river as well as un lighted marker bouy's and wing ****s all of which can really mess up a good night trip.
The anchor light I fix by placing 1/2 a dixie cup taped to my side of the light, this helps defuse the light yet is still visible too others (still hate having it on though)
Night fishing sure is peaceful!!!!!!!!
