I want to start fishing the upper lakes region of Winnebago. I am trying to get some pointers on what color cranks work best in this system. I fished mostly up north in the past and orange was the color. Please help because I only have limited budget and I don't want to waste it on bad colors.
Thanks in advance.

some of my favorites are # 5 shad raps fire tigger chartruse blue silver
John,
If I was to stock general crank bait colors for the upper lakes,my 1st choices would be as follows. Natural (Silver/Gold/Perch). On other days a bright or chart. color will work better. For these days just purchase (Firetiger/Chartreuse). All other combinations of the above including Blue will work. Presentation is the key.... But this will be a good beginning...

Poygan is best fished in May and June, and some of the best baits for me have been holographic green #5 shad raps (on sale at Fleet right now!) and the shad colored raps. Set 20 feet from the board you will catch fish. And I have caught many walleyes on the baby and junior shallow running chrome thundersticks, but you will need to go rummagesaling for these as they are discountinued.
Oh yeah, Gander has some small rapalas in their clearance pile right now. Better hurry up and get them!

A lot of people tried white bellied cranks with either black or orange backs. Wally divers or shad raps are probably the most popular.
Blue/chrome/orange bellied #5 shad rap has been my best bait for a couple of years.

Sorry - that should have been RED backs instead of orange....
