I've read the articles in the papers that uses all the DNR's research that says the bite will be down as compared to last year at Mille Lacs but, what do the fishermen think who fish the lake?? Will it still be excellent? good? average? slow? I really enjoy fishing the lake I just hope it has a good bite!!

Thanks!!

Bud: I look for the bite to be average to above average. The slot limit still kinda stinks but, it makes for some fun fishing. I know for a fact that they did have a good summer hatch of perch so, this will slow the bite down some but, one can only hope it is still awesome. Take care and think warm!!

Splitshot is correct on the perch hatch according to what I have read. I don't fish the lake in the winter, but make several trips down there in the summer. We have excepted the fact that we will not be taking any fish home. Considering the fun we have had there the past two summer seasons it's not an issue. I hope the bite is as good this summer, but most reports say that it will be off a bit.

Define average.....for the past two years average=hot.

This is the first year there has been a good hatch of bait fish. There are perch and walleye fingerlings everywhere. A person would think that with such a high walleye population they would be able to decrease the baitfish population. This hasn't happened yet. Ice fishing has been real slow all winter. The fish that are caught are extremely fat. Some of the fish we caught out there trolling this fall didn't look like they would be able to swim they were so fat. It's amazing how much weight the fish put on in a few months. They went from skinny to obese.

I think this year will be a more normal year. The spring and post spawn will fishing will be good, but it will not last through the summer like the past two. The bite will taper off more towards the end of June and into July. There are plenty of fish in the lake, but they will not need to take every presentation that is thrown in front of them like last year.

Just my opinion...............
