I know a lot of you use both Dipsey Divers and Planer Boards. Which do you find the most productive? Do you use Dipseys behind the boards? I have both and use the Dipseys most often. Still trying to get the hang of trolling Lake Erie.
The Fish Hound
It is somewhat dependant on where you fish. Huron and east the Dipsies rule from late May through Sept. In the western basin and really when ever you're targeting fish above 30' the boards will produce. Dipies are faster to reset and adjust.
Little Dipies can be run off of full size boards, but you loose the speed.
Which I run is most dependant on what depth I want to fish. Above 30' boards, below...Dipsies.
Good luck and good fishing.

They are two different presentations. Boards for when they are spooked to the side, and dipsys for when you gotta get down deep. I found if they are that deep, the boat dont really bug them, at least the water I fish most.

My experience has been that cranks out perform spoons in spring but when water warms in summer they seem to prefer spoons. For spoons you cant beat dipsey's but jetdivers also work real well run behind boards. If the fish cant make up their minds....try a "3 way" rig with a reefrunner AND a spoon. double headers are not unheard of!
my 2 cents.

I hae both and never use the boards. Because, they are just a lot more work than is necessary. If you run dipseys out to the side on a 3.5 setting and run riggers or small dipseys 100-150 ft. straight back, then troll in an S pattern, you will achieve the same result. Many will argue this, but it works for me more often than not. I try to use the boat to make life more enjoyable. As soon as I spot an active school, I go into an S pattern.
